I'm white, and my hair is curly. I HATE it curly. I only wear it straight. And it's not because of other people. If I lived on a deserted island I would still probably straighten it. I just like the feeling of running my hand through my straight hair. When I try to do that with my curly hair it just feels horrible. I straighten it for me, not for anyone else, and natural or not is all an individual choice. I choose non-natural for myself.
@Spring1234777 The title of this film was taken from the impromtu comment of my little girl. It's purpose is to show that my family is enjoying the journey of living with and dealing with our naturally curly hair. I chose to color my hair. some would say that because of this I am no longer a "Natural Girl." I disagree. However, to each his own. I think people should do what ever they choose to do. I'm sorry that you don't enjoy your curls. However I do. Be Blessed!
Wow! I happened upon ur video and needed! I an feeling "unpretty," although I have finally gotten more comfortable n front of my husband. I ventured out after my bc and felt really odd. Trust me, no one was paying me any attention, but I have to boost my confidence until it grows out. My hair was cut to an inch, inch and a half. So, I am not ashamed of texture, just my length.
@raelex1216 This video was made over a year ago and I long for the day when my kids will leave me alone so that I can cut it back down to the length that it was in this video. I loved it! Now my hair is past my shoulders and I have cut about 4-5 inches OFF (at this point.) There are many highs and lows in this journey. Just try to enjoy it. Remember, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! Be Blessed!
@KTBEverlasting Yes they have! There are not many African Americans in the little town that we live in. So at times I show them videos of kids (wholook like them) just being kids.
Do you also say 'Don't go into the sun to get tanned light people' or 'don't make your hair curly'....? What's the bad rhing about? It's just a hair style not a political attitude...
@Chrosome WTF?!? This video is FAR from political. "Don't get tanned light people" is medically correct b/c light skinned people end up with skin cancer from trying to be BLACK LIKE ME, STUPID! The film's intent is in NO WAY implying that all Brown people should or want to make their hair straight. In fact, if you were more familiar with my channel, you would see that I have even displayed "Brown people" with chemically relaxed AND naturally straight hair. Get a Life, already!
Some girls don't want their hair curly or puffy and some do. Doesn't really have much to do with your roots. They can straighten their hair as much as they want and should if that's what they really want to do. (In my opinion it looks better straight but to each his own).
@AudioSketchMusic The entire point of my hair chronicles is that we can achieve the "straight look" without relinquishing our curls or exposing ourselves to chemicals. The title is a pun pulled from my daughter's impromptu statement. Sheesh! Lighten up!
@Dontboxmein7 Thank you! It is of major importance to me. Especially since we are some of the precious few African Americans in our community. I didn't want my girls growing up desiring the straight hair of their non-ethnic schoolmates. I wanted them to love the uniqueness that is AFRO HAIR! Be Blessed and thanks for your support!
@shanda9895 Thank you so much! Tonight I am feeling so proud of my son! He was the hit of his school's music show! He was so funny! He put the "preacher" growl in his voice while leading the audience in the school's sports chant! I LOVE MY KIDS!
@Luken8ed4eva The title of this film was taken from a child's impromptu statement. It's intent is in NO WAY implying that all Brown people should or want to make their hair straight. @queenTrdh Hey, Queen! Thanks for the support! I love my girls, but my son is my MAIN MAN! Ssshhh! Don't tell their dad! Ha! Promoting self esteem and the freedom to be yourself is what was missing from my own up-bringing. I wanted to break those falsehoods with my own children. It is encouraging to get feedback that I am on the right track! Be Blessed!
@2010KH The first place to look for the the Clear ECO Styling Gel is Sally's Beauty Supply. I am in LOVE with the ECO Olive Oil Styling Gel (the Green one), which I had to special order at Sally's. I have also heard that there is a Blue? one for colored hair and a Pink one, but I don't know what it is supposed to be for. I have also seen it in Asian owned beauty supply stores that market to African Americans. I hope that you find it! Be Blessed!
@ThePunjabdholi123456 I'm not exactly sure what you are implying by this comment. The last time that I checked, any persons with a brown hue from melanin are described as BROWN. I don't teach my children that AFRICAN AMERICANS are "black" people. When they (I) look into the mirror they (I) see BROWN skin. Some Indians are brown skinned. I personally, know a lot of them that are insulted if someone says so. Many try different methods to try to achieve lighter skin. So, what are you aiming at?
@ThePunjabdholi123456 Thanks for explaining what you meant on my channel comments! I am PRO-Brown People, whatever the origin. Thanks for your subscription and friendship request.
Oh this is exactly what I needed. I was almost going to relax my hair.... its been a very very bad week for my hair. but thanks to you, lil girl and big girl LOL... I won't be relaxing it. Thanks for posting this and kisses to the girls. x
@DaViperSnake I had a friend in college once that told me the same thing. I told him to get an afro wig. That crazy boy did it! You should have seen us at the club in Downtown San Francisco. His wig was a big hit! I'm more than sure that my story is not the response that you wanted. But your statement brought back a long forgotten memory. Be Blessed!
@LavenderBreeze428 Oh! Thank you! At times I wonder if sharing this part of my life is worth the effort. Comments like yours keep me encouraged! Be Blessed!
@temickab No, they are about 14 months apart in age. To be honest I get that question a lot! They are so close that sometimes they complete each other's sentences (Can you believe it?!?!) They are so sweet together. It makes me wish that I had a sister (:-D
my gudness, they are so funny...but oh so pretty...they look like you a lot..with ur big eyes.., anyways, we r talking about hair right lol...have u cut the hair of ur oldest daughter, i know u use to do that often cos otherwise she will sit on it...but still...ah..don't cut it too much..i LOVE HAIR..hahah esp. kids.. but thanks for the encouragement.. stay blessed!
Ha! Ha! You are funny too! Thx 4 the kind words. I couldn't get Big G's hair past her shoulders until about 2 yrs ago. It took me that long to figure out that she needed about a 50/50 protein/moisture balance. Her hair is mid back at this point. I trim it about every 6 mths. It is the youngest one who will sit on her hair if I don't keep it trimmed. She only likes to wear it loose 2 or 3 times a year. I trim her's 2x a yr as well. Be encouraged and stay blessed;-D
Beautiful!! I LOVE how you've taught your daughters to love themselves as they are. (you don't see that too often) Whatever you're doing is working...Keep it up!!
Such a beautiful family! Your hair looks so good while it's short, I can't wait to see how it'll look when it grows out. It really accentuates your features. I haven't tried the Care Free Curl gold but I did recently discover the Care Free Curl Instant moisturizer in the yellow and red bottle, thanks to another YTer, and my hair loves it!
Thank you! Thanks, I love the short cut. I am even thinking about rocking this short style for a year or so. The CFCIM in the yellow and red is the "Gold" one. Isn't it terrific? The only thing that I don't like about it is that my hair stays wet all day with it. Maybe I am just heavy handed when using it. My hair loves it too! I think it must be all of the glycerin. Be Blessed!
Yesterday I did a wash and go, but I put oil on after my conditioner and before the CFCG. I ended up washing my hair before the day was over because it felt "sticky." Ugh! It was the first time since my BC that I had experienced product buildup! Yuck! I had not tried using oils in my hair for about 6 wks. The ECO Olive Oil Gel and oils in my Dr. Bronner's must be enough for my hair and scalp. It is going to have to be, because I do not like STICKY HAIR!
*LOL* Out of the mouths of babes, indeed! I almost responded with, "Tell, the truth, and put the Devil to shame!" But honestly, some people wouldn't have gotten the reference. *Sigh* So sad, so sad! Be Blessed!
"Whatever God gave you is what you were meant to rock" - I put that in my quote book!
I'm not black, but I am naturally curly, and giving up the straighteners and hot irons was so freeing! Indian culture loves straight hair, but I just said Eff it. I was MEANT to rock this shag! Not worrying about curling up, or frizzing, leaves me free to enjoy life! Too much "doing" turns you into a dollinstead of a woman! GREAT message!
I am so glad to read your response to this video! I have to tell you that I felt so liberated once I divorced relaxers. Rock your curly natural, Sister! I also agree with the "doing" hindering beauty. I am trying to teach my girls (and my son) that exercising restraint (with makeup, fashion and general style) leads to a refined look. Outlandish, overdone looks lead to tags like "Tacky", "loud" and lots of questionable glances! Stay blessed
BEAUTIFUL!!! This is so wonderful. I wish we cud all teach our children particularly our girls how NATURALLY beautiful they r from this young tender age. Thank u so much for posting this. U ALL R BEAUTIFUL!!! ;-)
Thank you! I wish that I had their confidence and sense of self assurance when I was a youngster! It's funny, I was raised with mostly African Americans and I didn't think that I was beautiful or special (you know dark skin wasn't "IN" in the 70's) But here are these two lovely, natural sisters, being raised in a place where, more often than not, they are the only African Americans, and they know that they are beautiful! Amazing! I know that they are mine, but I am still amazed.
Many insecurities that our children face come from there own mothers. I'm excited to see sisters like you and many others that have natural hair and encourage this behaviour on your children. Peace
Can you believe that they had been at school all day!?!? The little one NEVER stops jumping! I was waiting for their big brother and had just remembered to make a "be encouraged" post.
Thank you! I praise God every day for these wonderful gifts. If we don't share the joys and struggles in front of them, they will be forced to figure it out for themselves (like most of us did.) NO Creamy Crack for my girls! No Way! No How!
I'm white, and my hair is curly. I HATE it curly. I only wear it straight. And it's not because of other people. If I lived on a deserted island I would still probably straighten it.

Also, your kids are SOOO beautiful! I'm jealous!

Peace

Soooo cute. I loved hearing everyone's comments!
Your children's energy is incredible. It reminds me of my teaching days...that energy level is like...phew! I got some of my BEST sleep back then! LOL
NappyNFree 2 years ago 3
Can you believe that they had been at school all day!?!? The little one NEVER stops jumping! I was waiting for their big brother and had just remembered to make a "be encouraged" post.
Zaharam2 2 years ago
Yes, I believe it! If I could bottle that energy, I would be UNSTOPPABLE! :-)

Thank you! I praise God every day for these wonderful gifts. If we don't share the joys and struggles in front of them, they will be forced to figure it out for themselves (like most of us did.) NO Creamy Crack for my girls! No Way! No How!
