  • thanx sir ur vocal lesson helped me a lot

  • I have a question,do I have to always before I start singing do this kind of warm up? I noticed when i make the entired video program like here,my voice is better.

  • @LostShadow901 You do not always have to warm up before you start singing, but it's recommended. Warming up before you sing reduces strain and all that nonsense so you won't risk injuring yourself. And in time it maintains your singing voice and your range. It's just a great thing to get in the habit of doing before you sing.

  • @TheProjectAlexander Thank you,I just noticed that every time i do the warm up,my voice is a lot better but I just cant understant that to sing I need to do this every time to pull 100% out of me..his warm up is 9 minutes long, its quite long if im in a hurry. Do you make this kind of warm up.?

  • @LostShadow901 Well I know what you mean, sometimes I'm running late for band practise and have to do a quick warm up sometimes. Lately though I have been doing a warm up for 30-40 mins. I've noticed a huge difference in my tone quality this way.

  • hey i wanna ask u something

ppl say i have an ok voice but i need to work on it do u think if i work on my vocals ill move from ok to good 2 great??? please help me

  • @xonlyxjojox Do warm up's at LEAST once a day. Keep singing the songs you like. Don't strain your voice. If your voice goes out don't worry. Just let it rest and go back to it. It takes a long time because in learning singing you plateau for months and gradually get better. Each time it's like a little light bulb goes off in your head. Don't worry, just keep at it and you'll get to where you want to be.

  • i use this every day now

  • i want to know if you explain how to increase vocal range what exercise to focus on?

    thanks love vids explanations

  • @kiddojersey Increasing your range is something that I teach in my free course. You can sign up at my website.

  • Hiya, this vid is great, really helpful thanks very much. I like how you take the time to reply to people too :) I have a couple of questions if you don't mind? I was wondering if when your voice is breaking it is ok to keep singing, as long as you do warm up exercises etc? Also I was wondering if some of the notes you suddenly can't reach (which feel like they should be easy to reach) when your voice is breaking will come back once your oice settles down? Or if you can train them back? Thanks!

  • @LittleNerd *voice (d'oh!)

  • @LittleNerd Hi there. It's perfectly fine for you to keep singing while your voice is breaking. Just make sure you don't get frustrated. Your voice will settle down in time and you will be able to sing with a full range (it may just be in a different octave).

  • Hi there Ian! It's been a while, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm still using your vids loads of times AND that I got accepted to the musical theatre school I auditioned for (got rejected at 2, and actually got accepted to the one I wanted to go to most :D). I'm 1 out of only 13 lucky people who got in, so yayness :D !

So once again thnx so much for posting this kind of stuff, it REALLY helps people!

oh yeah, how are the rehearsals for The Boy from Oz coming along? Cheers

  • @xEleahx Congrats on getting in to the course! I'm happy that my videos have helped you. I've finished "Boy From Oz" now. It was a great show and we actually sold out every performance. Having a break from the stage now to focus on teaching and uploading more videos.

  • I used to be able to sing low/medium and with power but then my friend came over and we practiced high notes for like 10 hours (literally) and now my singing voice is really high and barely audible!! How do i restore?!?!

  • @greenluckysocks sing low/medium for (literally) 10 hours

  • i learned this new technique to help support high notes by bending the knees while keeping your back straight (as though sliding down a wall wih heels against the wall) im just wondering if this is a safe exercise to develop muscle memory?

  • i want to get into acting and theatre but i can't seem to sing with emotion in my tone especially when i hit higher notes (im a high baritone/premature tenor). when i sing certain songs with a mood behind it i have nothing but a "monotone" quality to it / i am singing with dynamics, vibrato, etc but if i sing a jaunty song sad song it is nothing but words being sung can you help thanks

    -Sephiroth

  • @sephiroth87932 My advice to you is experiment with different levels of breath, energy and tone colour when you sing. Focus more on the meaning of the words than your vocal technique. Contrasting louds and softs will also help with the montone problem.

  • @AussieVocalCoach thank you for the advice this really helped me with my audition it'll help me during high school and i was able to audition in front of rita harvey (christine from phantom of the opera) and neil berg (host of 100 year anniversary of broadway) with music of the night again thank you so much !

  • Aussie:

The past post you are talking about is done by one of the trouble maker students I have he typed the message while I moved from my desk to grab a cup of coffe. Funny Guy:) I actually enjoy and use your warm ups and use them all the time.

  • @MHCV0721 Hahaha no problem. You can tell him that I have taken his advice and started wearing hats ;)

  • hey you need to wear a hat your head is distracting. :)

  • @MHCV0721 Hahaha nice! Honestly my head really isn't that big, it's the screen ratio of the webcam I used!

  • Ian, could you check my cover out?:D It's a cover after Tainted Love by softcell. It's on my channel. Have a good day!

  • @MichaelJhoan Sure can. I left a comment on your channel.

  • @AussieVocalCoach I did that cover after warming up to this video:P

  • thanks man, I'm going to use this often. My question is, is it okay to sing every day for about an hour if I've been going at it for about 4 months?

  • @Chubigans An hour is fine at your stage.

  • Thank you very much, I do these every morning and before I start my lessons

they really help a lot :]

  • Thanks for a great warm up! It is very effective!!! I have a question...there have been times within the past year that while I'm singing my voice has given out on me. It seems to happen when I am projecting my voice pretty hard. Am I projecting too much? I was under the impression that when singing and supporting from the diaphram that I couldn't hurt my voice. I appreciate any advice you could give me. Thanks so much!

  • @christyandguy1101 If you voice is giving out on you it means the muscles that control you voice are working too hard. Have a look at your throat in a mirror when you are singing to check for any muscular tension.

  • Thnx A LOT Ian! I'm in the last round of auditions for a Dutch musical theatre school, and your warm-up is just GREAT for a quick rehearsal! Short, yet oh so effective. I have seen loads of these online clips but you're officially my favorite now! :D

  • @xEleahx You are welcome. Great to meet another musical theatre performer. I'm currently in rehearsals for "The Boy From Oz" playing the lead role of Peter Allen. Good luck with your auditions.

  • @AussieVocalCoach Wow, one of Australia's best! Awesome, congrats with that! I'm in a small production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown right now, playing Sally. A lot of fun to do! If only I didn't live on the other side of the world, I'd have come to watch the show :D Anyhow, lots of luck and fun with it!

  • I hate the mornings when I need to make my warm up... it sooo annoying:))

  • @MichaelJhoan I feel your pain! I usually warm up in the shower. The steam really helps with the "warm up process" :)

  • @AussieVocalCoach I'd like to know if SMOKING a cigarette helps to warm up your voice. Some people told me this... cuz I guess the warm fumes help warm up the voice. Is it true?

  • @MichaelJhoan Smoking will not help your voice to warm up. Warming up is basically another way to say "stretching". The exercises will stretch the muscles which control your voice. Smoking will only dry out your throat and decrease your breathing efficiency.

  • love this excellent stuff

  • I have a really hard time with lip rolls. I can start them, but they always trail off. Any suggestions?

    Amazing video!

  • That problem is probably related to your breathing rather than the lip roll. Try doing a couple of big "SHHHHH" sounds before you liproll to get your breath moving.

  • I lost my usual warm-up CD on tour and was looking for a quick fix but I might stick with this one from now on! Thanks Ian!

  • You are welcome. Thanks for commenting.

  • How is this 'Beginner Friendly' if I may ask?

    Great warm-up.

  • @DuskY1991 I had a few students say that my 4 part vocal warm up was a bit too hard (and long) for them so I recorded this warm up for singers who are beginning their training. It's not just for beginners though, it can also be used by more advanced singers who need to warm up quickly. I use this exact warm up with all of my private clients who have 30 minute lessons.

  • Great vocal warm-up thanks :D
