THE MAD HOUSE WITH HOUSE .was a real place its name was danverse state hospital it was a scary looking place that sat ontop of a hill in danverse massachusetts it was also part of the old salem village the asylum was built on what was one time one of the judges houses. it is now burnt down and what was left is no condo apartments .
I also live in the city of haverhill whre love craft wrote alot about chtullu
Creepily one of the best songs I've ever heard. The last part is what really ties it to Lovecraft but it does that unbelievably well. I can see how many of his protagonists might be glad to hide in an asylum and may even hope they're mad. The outside is Hell, as the song puts it.
I didn't understand a few of the lyrics. First it goes "Away in a madhouse, confined to my bed... nightmares that filled me with dread" I don't know what went in the ... spot. Later "Mind-numbing pills, they change my behavior to kill all my..." I don't know what that word was. Very funny, if disturbing, song though.
@Rtyeta away in a mad house, confined to my bed, from visions and nightmares, that filled me with dread, a doctor has sweetly inserted a probe, to sever completely my pre frontal lobe, electroshock therapy, mind numbing pills, they change my behavior to cure all my ills, I love the asylum my own padded cell, Ill stay here forever, for outside its hell.
I told a friend about this song and we ended up making up a sort of parody of it. An X-rated, somewhat disturbing parody, but I think that fits Lovecraft's work overall anyway. Anyway, it's just a great song, so easy to catch yourself singing it randomly during the day!
@Numenorean921 There are plenty of movies already out there based on lovecraft. None of them are as good as Avatar. To tell a story, you need imagery. I said Avatar graphics, not avatar the movie. If you could flesh out lovecraft's beings, such alien and unimaginable creatures, with the quality that avatar presents, I think it could lay down great potential. You're arguing against a point I didn't even make anyway.
@failedassassin For me the thing that makes HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos creepy is the notion that the beings and entities are so ridiculously foreign to our finite and intellectual brains and sensory organs. Perhaps on the big screen an entity of this quality would be hard to reproduce. But one may try I guess. I'd like to keep my dark notions to myself anyway! Happy spring!
I agree with Darkstar here although the sheer scale of an Old One would be terrifying. Could post-traumatic stress disorder be one of the causes as well?
The idea is that the images given are the best things that the minds looking at them can come up with. The idea is that these creatures are so alien, so foreign and unreal that they're basically brain crackers since our minds can't comprehend them.
Well, I think that it's more like 'cause of the Great Old One's power, it is so vast, that even in the death-like slumber, it causes man to go insane, because the mind is overflown by the sheer power of the presence of the Great Old One.
I think it also has to do with their scale. I grew up in a suburban neighborhood, and the first time I saw a full size skyscraper up close I actually fell down because I was put off balance looking up, and up, and up....
And the Great Old Ones are supposed to be the size of mountains, at least. Seeing something that astronomically, unnaturally large that's ALIVE would be enough to put anyone off.
I agree. The person who wrote this song must have had a similar reaction upon witnessing in flesh and blood the Great Old One. Without proper education regarding the scale and brilliance of it's power one can be taken aback and, apparently, be driven nigh to insanity. This is why I think Obama should make serious strides in Great Old One education reform.
@zstickney sure, some activated strand of another animal that has a different vibration than you would be frightful but different enough to spark curiosity after the scream and finding some hideous way of trapping other people with it and fulfilling your own desires to things. New-thoughts.
Cultist: Another potential member in the loony bin. *Sigh* Maybe we should save the necronomicon and the crazy dreams for after they are in the cult, I hear brochures are an effective strategy!
In 1918 a 17 year old boy named Edward supposedly died of the Spanish enfluenza. He was missing from the hospital along with a strange docter named Carlisle.
Edward didn't die. He's cold and hard as granite. His eyes turn black when he is Hungry. Guess what, his eyes are black. Copy and paste this to 2 other videos and Edward wont feed on you
Well, Eddi is going to have to stand in line behind the Hounds Of Tindalos... I'm afraid they are not going to leave enough of me for poor Eddi to eat.
I know that feeling, I am a roleplayer and my friends have even tried the game call of cthulhu, and some of them still asks me who Lovecraft is:( makes me sad
