Dana Carvey was one of the best SNL ever had. Church Lady is one of the most memorable skit series next to all the politics (some of which Dana Carvey also did:)
its a sad state of affairs when the best sketch of SNL in recent years was their celebrity impressions in that back to the future outtakes. Him, Sandler, Farley, Meyers and the old guys in the 90's had like boatload of characters to work on with their own punchlines.
i can remember being a kid in the 80's sittin up on sat nites with my mom watching the church lady and snl. i loved this show. snl had an all star cast of funny people back then. they would demolish todays snl's cast.
Love Dana!!! Especially as the Church Lady!! The new season of snl sucks! The only good episode's going to be when Dana host's on February 5th 2011! Can't wait!! :D Hope he brings back the Church Lady!!!!
My sister and I used to fight HARD to stay awake to see if it was a "Church Lady" episode of SNL back in the day... SOOO happy to hear that organ music to reward our patience!!
The best one they had in ages was with Betty White last spring. Bring back Dana, Steve Martin, and Eddie Murphey for some hosting/skits. Also Joe Piscapo so he could bang on Jersey Shore goofs as the original "Im from Jersey" guy....
I love Dana Carvey! Saw him live at the University of Maine. He was doing stand up comedy. Everyone was begging him to do "The Church Lady"! He did perform a little skit. SNL used to be so much better than today! Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dana Carvey etc.....
Strange... I just realized that Richard Dreyfus was in 2 different movies called "Tin Men" & "Tin Man". Does he ever get confused when people ask him about either film? Hey Richard, what did you think of "Tin Man"? "Well, Danny DeVito was great." Ya know, that sort of thing...
@geldingriders07 because as Dan Akroyd once put it, SNL is a comedy school. I even stopped watching when Dennis Miller left Weekend Update. Regardless of how dry SNL can get at times, eventually anyone that has ever been associated with the show goes on with their careers. Chris Rock, David Spade, and Chirs Farley just seemed to be nobodys back then but there certainly became huge. Writers also move on to bigger and better pastures.
@geldingriders07@geldingriders07 you also need to realize SNL has a lot of competition out there now in the age of communication and informatoin. So people watch MAD TV religiously, others watch Dave Chapelle while others prefer stand up comedy. It can also be argued that SNL helped pave the way for other comedy outlets. It is all about competition and preference but nice to see SNL. I don't know if they still enjoy a full 90 minutes or if the show has been scaled back.
Godamn, I can't believe this one skit made me laugh more than I'd laughed at this year's, and last year's entire SNL season! That is just sad. WTF happened to SNL, because every year it gets progressively less funny. I don't even think of it as a comedic show anymore (come to think of it I don't even watch it anymore).
Apparently the DVD people don't want to put it out on dvd until it's conVEENient. It kinda sucks too. I love the original SNL. It's much funnier than the stuff that's on today.
I was in high school when SNL first started the "Church Chat" skits. From the first time church lady said, "SATAN???" I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe!!!
@icanreadncount I just read that Dana Carvey was raised Lutheran and he patterned the church lady after some of his fellow congregants - LOL! Being a Lutheran myself, I know where this is coming from.

I saw Dana and Mike Myers together when Mike just started SNL in '89 or '90.
Amazing show, they did all the impressions and SNL characters.

@geldingriders07 because as Dan Akroyd once put it, SNL is a comedy school. I even stopped watching when Dennis Miller left Weekend Update. Regardless of how dry SNL can get at times, eventually anyone that has ever been associated with the show goes on with their careers. Chris Rock, David Spade, and Chirs Farley just seemed to be nobodys back then but there certainly became huge. Writers also move on to bigger and better pastures.

@geldingriders07 @geldingriders07 you also need to realize SNL has a lot of competition out there now in the age of communication and informatoin. So people watch MAD TV religiously, others watch Dave Chapelle while others prefer stand up comedy. It can also be argued that SNL helped pave the way for other comedy outlets. It is all about competition and preference but nice to see SNL. I don't know if they still enjoy a full 90 minutes or if the show has been scaled back.

Godamn, I can't believe this one skit made me laugh more than I'd laughed at this year's, and last year's entire SNL season! That is just sad. WTF happened to SNL, because every year it gets progressively less funny. I don't even think of it as a comedic show anymore (come to think of it I don't even watch it anymore).

This clip is from the late 80's. Can't wait till the SNL dvd sets get to that era cuz those were the funniest years IMHO.
Runner ups would be the early 80's when Eddie Murphy was on & the early 90's with Chris Farley & Adam Sandler.

Apparently the DVD people don't want to put it out on dvd until it's conVEENient. It kinda sucks too. I love the original SNL. It's much funnier than the stuff that's on today.

I was in high school when SNL first started the "Church Chat" skits. From the first time church lady said, "SATAN???" I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe!!!

@icanreadncount I just read that Dana Carvey was raised Lutheran and he patterned the church lady after some of his fellow congregants - LOL! Being a Lutheran myself, I know where this is coming from.
