I learned about "mantatory volunteerism" in residency. They would ask one to volunteer. But the word, just as here, was not given its ordinary meaning. It was mandatory.
This act has eerie parallels to the CCC Camps of FDR! You have to be able to see this follows the Moral Equivalent of War, which organizes mandatory voluntarism. So, yes there is a precedent, but this precedent isn't slavery. That's the wrong context.
Mandatory volunteerism, oppressive taxes, gov.run health care, socialism, communism, redistribution are all just forms of slavery. I think it's odd that you can't get a"civil rights advocate" to talk about that.

This is an awesome video! Mandatory Volunteerism already exists in the United State military, because they call it a volunteer force but if you want to get out they'll hold you and say you're violating your contract. Now they are just trying to extend this concept to EVERYONE in the U.S... and this has been being planned for years now! By the way the slavery in the U.S. was not the reason for the Civil War... the whites only fought this war because of the voting system and the 3/5 Compromise that benefited the south. :)
@lifthz Actually, the 3/5 compromise didn't benefit the South. Your understanding of history is obviously lacking. Had slaves been consider a full citizen it would have allowed substantially more representation in the new government of those states that supported and owned slaves.
The founders knew slavery wasn't on the table in Philadelphia, so they did what they could at the time to hold it at bay and limit the power of the slave states and still successfully create a new constitution.

Compromise was the name of the game across the board and there was no way slavery was going to be abolished as many wanted it and still have the slave states ratify the document. Emancipation was decades away and the 3/5 compromise was fought by the Southern states as it weakened their power in the new government. Mandatory volunteer service violates the 13th Amendment to the Constitution that prohibited slavery. It is ironic that the first African American President wants to reinstitute slavery. I volunteer and would like to continue to do that alongside other people who want to be there--not the footdragging slackers who are forced to be there.

It was simply mentioned that the possibility of mandatory service work for youth be looked into (much in the way we have mandatory schooling), I don't agree with it either but you miss the point, it was simply mentioned that the idea should be looked into, the passing or not had nothing to do with the actual idea going into effect, it would require another bill to go through congress anyway... That's why it was so easy to just remove it when some sensationalist conservatives freaked out.

I learned about "mantatory volunteerism" in residency. They would ask one to volunteer. But the word, just as here, was not given its ordinary meaning. It was mandatory.

This act has eerie parallels to the CCC Camps of FDR! You have to be able to see this follows the Moral Equivalent of War, which organizes mandatory voluntarism. So, yes there is a precedent, but this precedent isn't slavery. That's the wrong context.

Mandatory Volunteerism already exists in the United State military, because they call it a volunteer force but if you want to get out they'll hold you and say you're violating your contract. Now they are just trying to extend this concept to EVERYONE in the U.S... and this has been being planned for years now! By the way the slavery in the U.S. was not the reason for the Civil War... the whites only fought this war because of the voting system and the 3/5 Compromise that benefited the south. :)

@lifthz Actually, the 3/5 compromise didn't benefit the South. Your understanding of history is obviously lacking. Had slaves been consider a full citizen it would have allowed substantially more representation in the new government of those states that supported and owned slaves.
The founders knew slavery wasn't on the table in Philadelphia, so they did what they could at the time to hold it at bay and limit the power of the slave states and still successfully create a new constitution.

Compromise was the name of the game across the board and there was no way slavery was going to be abolished as many wanted it and still have the slave states ratify the document. Emancipation was decades away and the 3/5 compromise was fought by the Southern states as it weakened their power in the new government. Try letting go of the racists bs and think about, makes complete sense

Mandatory volunteer service violates the 13th Amendment to the Constitution that prohibited slavery. It is ironic that the first African American President wants to reinstitute slavery. One of your best videos. I especially like that you concentrated on the subject in a bipartisan manner. I think slavery being bad is something everyone (except the slave traders) can agree on, regardless of race, religeon, creed, or political bias.

You see, the civil war was not about slavery, Lincoln used slavery to justify invading the south. We all may need to walk a mile in slavery shoes in order to see what it means to be oppressed. Some things books cannot teach. Like how to sing like the oppressed. Spirituals are called Spirituals for a reason. They evoke the Holy Spirit when sung by those whose heart can handle enslavement and give love and more hard work even when whipped and exhausted. Interesting theory, but Obama had no plans on implementing any sort of gun ban, there was no flagging campaign, it was just a misconception that conservatives ran with to gain political points. If that's your definition of "death panel" then they already exist inside private companies and a big part of the push for healthcare reform is to get rid of them.

While I do still like Obama if there is anything I don't like about him, it is this whole thing with mandatory community service. I managed to avoid it in high school and I definitely don't want to have to do it in college.

It was simply mentioned that the possibility of mandatory service work for youth be looked into (much in the way we have mandatory schooling), I don't agree with it either but you miss the point, it was simply mentioned that the idea should be looked into, the passing or not had nothing to do with the actual idea going into effect, it would require another bill to go through congress anyway... That's why it was so easy to just remove it when some sensationalist conservatives freaked out.

What numb-nuts needs to get is that many of us volunteer & give constantly, we her are at the schools constantly, we help & donate to every fund raiser, bake sale/ auction for the needy that comes our way. But its only a blessing if done on your own, from your heart & not for show. The hardworking tax payers ARE already giving plenty so that others can sit on their duffs. I don't agree with The Give Act at all. I think it's patently unconstitutional. But this video is ridiculous. There is a big difference between requiring citizens to spend a couple years volunteering for the public benefit and lifelong servitude without compensation under horrendously abusive conditions are two different things, and it absurd to compare the two.

HR 1388 doesn't mandate service at all, and neither would HR 1444. All HR 1444 DOES, if you'd actually read the bills you excoriate, is establish a COMMISSION (which doesn't have the power to force anyone to do anything) to RECOMMEND how to expand gov't programs for service.
