  • i love samurais i which i was one!!!!! =D

  • what a wonderful story! now i got a new hero (Jules Brunet)

  • So, this was one more french imperialists moron who fought in Mexico and after taught Japanese to fought against us, Korean.

  • @giu76034347 i understand what you mean , its a bit true but not at all, french and japon military culture have some similitude , and that become a passion , bushido

  • WHAT AN EPIC STORY why does the movie have some sack of shit american main character when thats not even true???

  • @uberhaxor69 hollyowood dyg always shit

  • wow, this reminds me of my dissertation and third year history! Meiji Revolution was the most amazing module I ever had the pleasure of learning not just at university *reads comments on Saigo Takamori and smiles* going to Japan in October, can't wait to see it all first hand

  • @Sweetlittlemystery

I'm going to read about it now, because a) I love the movie and b) I'm also going to Japan this year (July) :D :D

  • Kinda fucked up how the Hollywood made him American instead of French.

  • @nagasako7 Jean Renault could be a good actor (the only one I know).

  • can someone tell me what is the name of the soundtrack?

  • @ThePhantom1992 Red Warrior by Hans Zimmer

  • @yeriih11 Thanks Mate =D

  • Still he's not the last samurai

  • as much as i think this is brilliant, i swear the last of the samurai made their last stand in kyushu?

  • @24Pudders kyushu would be the last place they would ever fight. that's the Satsuma and Choshu territory, the pro-Empire clans. The Aizu and other pro-Shogun forces fled north because they were pushed out from Honshu.

  • @24Pudders The film creates a bit of confusion because it draws inspiration from the Boshin Wars and the Satsuma Rebellion. The two events are about seven years apart, but events from both take place side by side in the movie. In reality, the Boshin Wars and Satsuma Rebellion were completely separate events.

  • wow, men, good fine!! the history of this man is extraordinary, like wolfen443 said, better than the film The Last Samurai, the music is great, and your work is amazing, congratulations, is an very very emotional short and a honour for all the people of France have a hero like Jules Brunet, France have a great history in this world, but look like there are not interest than people know about it,french governemnt and producer must do anything about it, greetings

  • Samurais were destroyed by Meiji Tenno!

Even now, most of Japanese living in the east are hating Tenno.

  • The real story together with the soundtrack is so beautiful *-*

  • спасиба за россказ я поражон!!!

  • What an amazing piece of history. Thanks for the post

  • I hate so much how Americans and British try to rewrite history. But we still have man like thecajuncutthroat that go against the tide! Thank God for that! Long live France heroes like Jules Brunet!

  • @ImperialGuard9001 Rewrite history! What have the British done ? If in the future people learn history from films they will think the Americans done just about everything.

  • @tharleyify Thats true but Anglo Saxons normaly have a bigger influence. And so its not only Americans altougth they are the larger party in today world on cultural influence based on ignorance and mislead facts.

  • @ImperialGuard9001

    I agree to your opinion

In Japan, it is a proper historical fact

To the Japanese history TV drama which French soldiers appear

    Claude Ciari played it, too

Probably Hollywood should have known the historical fact.

Tom Cruise= Jules Brunet = survived

Ken Watanabe = Hijikata,Toshizo =It is shot and dies

I am the same to a script

  • @JINATAHISAKAZU Probaly more Saigo Takamori to be Katsumoto

  • @JINATAHISAKAZU As for Nathan Algren altougth Jules Brunet is one of its inspiration Brunet never fougth with samurai attire and fough with Western Uniform such as most of his men Japanese or European now theres a sailor that did wear Samurai attire his name was Eugène Collache a French Navymen. As for Katsumoto rebelion I would say is after the Boshin War and the Resistance at Hokkaido in Ezo Republic is when the samurai that suport Imperial faction revolted against it

  • Thank you~

You know it well. I was surprised

    I like souls of Brunet.

It abandoned a desire and fought for French national interest.

    It is common to Bushido

  • We lost a P.R. war at home ,the Tet offensive was a dying gasp of the viet kong . Militarily we could have stayed their forever,

  • master your chi

  • @TheJEANFB Really I explained the whole thing? in a paragraph ? or you took what you wanted/needed out of it.

  • @davetileguy Sorry but your explanation is just as ridiculous

  • @TheJEANFB Not as ridiculous as your country simply giving up! LMFO!

  • @davetileguy as your country. Yep, it's harder to win a war alone than when accompanied by the rest of the world

  • @TheJEANFB P.S. I have explained nothing to you.

  • How interesting TY ~

  • I thought their last samaurai died in Hiroshima

  • Nice.

  • There are a lot of black men in this photo at 6:03

  • Meiji Emperor looks like he is mixed race. Asian/black

  • samurai's last battle :(( im sadly from story.

yea i think japan soldiers used bolt action rifles and samurai with sword

  • Yeah guns cannons vs swords and crosbows what a victory of France wow .........

  • @dirtykeskin Actually both sides had access to firearms

  • This music is amazing

  • @iamagenericbadass Its from the Last Samurai movie

  • USA just scared Japan by sending a fleet and i dont know anymore american accomplishment in Japan during this era.

  • @rjvash1997 Well, you can read what people back then wrote about Americans, apparently they felt mistreated by them, it got worse directly after WWII when the Americans started raping people, even started kidnapping women from Korea or the Philippines to bring them to Japan. Also, the Japanese complain about human rights violations & molestations by US troops in Okinawa until today. Are these "accomplishment" in your eyes? It gets worse when talking about Philippine-US history.

  • AMAZING, the real story behind the Movie is even better than the film itself.

  • 4:51 the meiji era starts = milk companies rule japan

  • Interesting!

  • I didn't know anything about Jules Brunet and the French mission to Japan. I don't know if the movie was based on this story but I can see how it could have been. Fascinating! Thanks to you for posting this. I do wish, however people wouldn't post peripheral, ad hominem, piffle about matters that don't pertain to the story you wanted us to see.

  • Gee dude, not to interrupt some Frenchman's rabid America is so evil rant but the clue that Last Samurai wasn't about this Brunet might just be that Wounded Knee happen in 1876 about five years AFTER the Boshin War of 1867-69

  • the word EPIC is not an adjective

  • I thought it's the Emperor who wanted Japan to remain shut because of the "Sonno Joi"

  • So they use guns & swords in their battle, good. Why did people think The Last Samurai was accurate again?

  • Out standing

  • Very interesting. Thank you :)

  • well done!!

  • It is a shame that such old and interesting culture like ancient japan had to come to an end. I speak also of my country (Portugal), and any country for that matter... that had such old history, but I guess we all have to move on with times.

  • @nelsoncarmo26 : Fight against modernization is burying your own tomb. The Japanese saw how every single nation was being colonized by the western states and had no other option. I would not like myself to be a peasant in the ancient chinese-class societies ( or a peasant in the XVI Portugal or Spain )

  • @hayunspain You are right. Every western european country had a ruthless past, and although i would have like to see how it was back then, I wouldn't do it as a peasant. From portugal to the UK, they were bad, mean, ruthless killers, who took over, destroyed, consumed, then moved on some place else, rinse and repeat. But... The japanese were not so innocent as you are trying to portrait, they too had their share of ruthless killing. They too tried to invade china a few times.

  • During the great war, WW1, the French and the Australian solider fought and died defending the sovereign of France. Australia also, will always be a friend of France.

  • cuthroatcajun..you are my hero!

keeping making these and tell the truth about france's many heroes...unknown and untold in the anglophone world!

    well done! great productions!

  • Really impressive...fantastic!

  • play the soundtrack for the movie behind this it sounds really nice

  • fascinating

  • The shogun only rose to power early in the 17th century. Before that the entire country was divided and ruled by individual daimyo. Therefore saying that the shogun had held power for 600 years before Meiji regained control is innaccurate.

  • @zetch1411 There were shoguns before; just a small interluding period called the sengoku period.

  • @Wonnex130 face it , your most likely going to be a lowly peasant with very limited freedom and had to die for the lord when war comes but you get no credit, your just there to block arrows for the higher class, but if you survive, you get to go back to farming and rationing :D yay

  • Thank you for positng this.

  • Thanks for posting. Mention of French officers practicing martial arts is interesting. Of course, France has their own fighting traditions, including savate.

I'm wondering if the French officers made any comparisons with their own fighting traditions with that of Japan.

  • Well done! Very, very impressive presentation...with the video and music and all...

  • why didnt they just make this movie instead

  • @packerfan748 Well the last samurai was made in Hollywood what did you expect?

  • Thank you :)

  • No Tom Cruise. I dig.

  • Fuckin Spielberg : in his movie Tintin, the Knight de Hadoque, a French corsair of king Louis XIV becomes Francis Haddock, an English captain !!!

  • @lahire666 no it's not true he is still french. Look at the fleur de lys on the battlships' flag.

  • that's pretty awesome. well done.

  • The Japanese were once a culture of unique beauty and tradition. But now, many of the people have wiped out their traditions and Japan's now a place of electronic distractions and Lady Gaga-style merchandise.

I feel ashamed that people feel that a lifestyle filled with lifeless machines and computers is so much better than a simple way of life. I only pray that humankind won't lose it's way any further

  • very good presentation......well done old boy, indeed, well done.

  • Thanks for posting!! I had no clue..

  • I want this time back :(

  • @Wonnex130 This was a good time and a bad time too. Just like every other time in history. The best time for YOU my friend though is NOW because you live in the now.

  • @Dogmeat. U.S. Lost Vietnam. Are you from earth?

  • @shogunmental we left we didn't lose ,they lost 1 million we lost 50,000 how is that losing?

  • @davetileguy it's not just about numbers my friend. though that war was definately classed as being lost.

  • @TheKneekap I disagree ,we didn't win but we didn't lose , we left.

  • @davetileguy just admite that your country lost a war lol. look what the vietnam war did to the American people... it forced a divide down the entire country. mass protests and violence. that's exactly what the NVA and VC wanted, and they got. even though that war was completely uncalled for and should never have started.

  • @TheKneekap Yes we lost the PR war ,the fact that we could nuke the whole world would seem to make you understand that we voluntarily pulled out. As for why we were there it was a commitment we made at the time by your hero JFK .If you want to see a loss look up the French's invasion of Vietnam that was a pathetic route .

  • @davetileguy spoken like a true drone to the institution. the fact you could nuke the whole world doesnt mean jack shit. Russia could nuke the whole world, the UK could also nuke the whole world. as soon as 1 country launches a nuke, consider the entire world gone. very immature excuse for a countries power.

the U.S forces could not match the NVA and VC with skill. the only way to do it was to saturation bomb, use CAS, and overwhelming firepower. inflicting massive collateral damage.

  • @davetileguy me thinks you fall prey to propoganda. now take a seat and keep your mouth shut. conversation over.

  • @TheKneekap Whatever ,so every nuke country could squash them you just admitted my point. what propaganda? what source is touting we won? I just go by the facts.

  • @davetileguy i'm talking about the knock-on effects of launching a nuke retard. the only point in having nuclear weapons today is as a deterrent against countries who also have Nuclear weapons. i VERY much doubt they will ever be used as a weapon again. i don't think you fully understand the methods behind propoganda... they arn't stupid enough to "tout". but they will push it in there somehow, you just need to be smart enough to spot it.

now please go harvest some IQ. goodbye

  • @TheKneekap Sticks and stones my friend, get better soon.

  • @davetileguy

French invasion of Vietnam, a "pathetic route"? As far as i can tell, the French defeated the Chinese & invaded Indochina (Vietnam+Laos+Cambodia). They settled there during 80 years. USA (with mass bombing, napalm, chemicals, unlimited credits etc...) didn't stay more than 15 years. This is what i call "pathetic"...Never saw an Anglo-Saxon with a real historical culture. What a pity.

  • @indexelbow Yeah, you people go ahead & argue who slayed more Asians, pillaged the most villages, raped the most women & who is a more vicious imperial power in total. Are you two actually aware with what you are trying to boast with here?

  • Sorry but you are totally off-topic.I'm not here to say "i've the biggest one because i killed more".We're not here to make some naive & manichean history. Empires and colonizations are not a specific Western history as you seem to think. It's the world history. You can't summarize it in looting and rape. As far as I can know, before the French era, Vietnam was a Chinese colony. The Red Khmers (indigenous) killed far more Indochinese people than French colonization ever did etc

  • @davetileguy Nuking the world equals to sign your death sentence. Even if not by the nuke from other countries, it will be by the nuclear winter.

  • @aclock2 who told you that ? over 2000 nukes have been detonated in our atmosphere ,In Nevada's old test site you can take a tour , same goes for Chernobyl ,Nagasaki and Hiroshima , before you come off with your insane statements hating me for being right Google it.

  • @davetileguy There is a huge difference between testing nuke and real nuke, and most of those 2000 were tests. And there is a reason why people do not use nuke so often, don't you think ? I'm sure it's not about morality or anything like that. Also, I don't hate people for being right or wrong. Even if I did, I would love you in this case.

  • okay this is really great i learned lots of things but the way i see it he didn't led the samurai he led the modern army the kind of army that jules is used to i mean i might be wrong anybody wanna correct me be my guest

  • I new the true story and when I watch the movie I was in shock that Hollywood just ignore the real story.

  • The last samurai was the greatest movie ever. It was a perfect blend of western culture with the fuedel culture of Japan. From the minute I started watching it I was drawn in hook line and sinker. I recomend it for every person out there!!!!!

  • Fantastic! I didn't know this, thank you very much for the data! And congratulations for the video, great piece, gave me goosebumps!

  • i really dun understand why japanturn bad during the world war -.-

  • turn bad? what are you a five year old? they fought for their country till the very end, till the U.S.A threw 2 nuclear bombs in their country, them! they stopped fighting, but i guess there's never gonna be a movie about this.

  • @joaoluizsn ....uhhh, they blindsided america at pearl harbor, and teamed up with germany to try to take over the world... i mean just google WWII and read about pre-war events with invasions of China, Soviet Union, Mongolia.... Your claim is that they gloriously fought for their country? If you don't want to eat plutonium... don't make a peace agreement with someone, and then stab them in the back... I would generalize their behavior as "bad". Now go watch "Patton" and stfu.

  • @hoorayitsjohn In my humble opinion, U.S. blindsided Japan with the first a-bomb. There would have been more humane ways of demonstrating the weapons power to the japanese, but no. Live test subjects were needed or should I say wanted, thus only a vague warning without any sign of what's to come and then, boom. I would generalize this behaviour as "bad". It's all in the point of view.

  • @TheDimotheus Although dropping the bombs in Japan were devastating, it saved millions of lives on both sides. Japan wasn't going to give up, America had to force them to give up and the atomic bomb was the only way.

  • @TheDimotheus

Dad lost brother, best friend & all innocence one Dec. day in 1941. They were stationed on ships in Pearl Harbor. U.S. was NOT at war with Japan. U said "blindsided"? Japan ALLIED THEMSELVES WITH ADOLF HITLER (Yes, allies). In a sneak attack they tried to wipe out the entire Navy all at once. Generalize that behaviour. I'm not defending the use of the Bomb. Don't know how/why of it. But how long did air-raids on Tokyo go? Japan wouldn't give in. Think most regretted it

  • @MrLegendman13 well when it comes to war (though for the sake of any possible arguement Nazi German, was bad) however there is no good and bad just horro that comes with war. And when in the western point of view we look back at Japan's methods during the World War we must understand that's how they fight with the spirit of an old world warrior culture which in the 20th century was pretty cruel.

  • @Yojimbo13david im sorry condoning the rape of women and the slaughter of children and unarmed people will never be explained away to me. thats straight up evil. sometimes individuals do bad things, but japan condoned it. theres a big difference. WW2 might be the only war in recent times that you can very clearly dub a good side and a bad side. WW1 was just an unfortunate misunderstanding. WW2 was about world dominance and the purposeful slaughter of innocent people.

  • @Yojimbo13david Oh come on, you can't say that there's no good and bad in a war, then say that Nazi Germany is bad.

That's logically invalid man. What Germany did was horrible, but their frustration had a lot to do with being forced to starve and die through the Treaty of Versailles.

  • So did Tom Cruise ever bang that Japanese MILF? I got a feeling she wanted it...

  • dude you have no idea how epic that was i am reading this in a darkroom with my headphones...it feel better than anything

  • fan fucking tastic

  • that was very en lighting ty for that

  • excellent work! excellent investigation!

  • that is called the superman sindrome...no doubt America is a great nation, with great man, but you have other grat nations, look to the Portuguese, we "discoverd 1/5 of the world, when everybody believed that the earth was flat...and regarding Japan clousure to the rest of the world, the Portuguese were the only ones aloud to go there...

  • @JoaoMariaNunes

You seem to be forgetting the Dutch, who where let into japan because of their protestant religion, not seeking to convert the japanese to christianity.

As a matter of fact, the 500-year relationship between japan and the netherlands was celebrated in the city of Leiden 2 years ago.

  • @JoaoMariaNunes They were quickly banned and replaced by the Dutch and Chinese traders no?

  • @xDespot

no, the ban was after the dutch arrived. why would you insta-think they were quickly replaced by the dutch?. and japanese always despised chinese, before portuguse discovered sea route to japan.

  • @xDespot

and the ban at the time was for all european traders, regardless of country (the japs didn't even care about country name).

then only 1/2 ships were allowed to enter per year on an isolated island. (which is basically nothing)

  • Wow, what an incredible story. Unlike the ridiculous, soulless version with Tom Cruise (aka. the crazy Hollywood dwarf) in it.

It makes me wonder why they didn't retell Brunets story in the first place. Stupid Hollywood monkeys!!

  • Look for this movie trailer: "半次郎 Hanjiro, the Last Samurai who strode across the dawn of Japan"

The real LAST SAMURAI in the movie was not the american person, but the japanese. In Japan this person is Saigo Takamori, Seinan War leader.

Anyway, thank you very much for this video! Really good information about french participation about how they tried to help Tokugawa Shogun.

However, in the other side there were also foreign soldiers to help the emperor troops, like in the movie.

  • Nous fêtons en ce 12 aout 2011 les 100 ans de la mort de jules Brunet.

On this 12 august. it has been 100 years since Jules Brunet died.

  • Very good and most historically enlightning video. However, the words on the screen are not diplayed long enough to read them, while also trying to look at the photos/drawings to get the whole picture/meaning.

  • 1 person is an Imperial who got his back slashed while running away from battle

  • Though France supported Russia during Russo-Japan war.

  • thumb up

  • and once again the truth is more interesting then the fiction, don't get me wrong i enjoy the movie but the truth will always be better then the fiction.

  • Excellent ! Impressive presentation, well done.... A story by itself , this Masterpiece of history.....

  • Many movies made by the american film industry are a distorsion of truthful history, I just have seen U-571, what is all but a lie about real events, you just have to replace US crew by Brits

  • @borncoza This is normal. US Americans just don't seem to respect other cultures & historical accuracy. Instead they always present themselves as the best. I think this is why they have this distorted world view & are completely oblivious of what is going on around themselves.

  • @GaolisVideoLog It's sad that We americans turn on the news and all we hear about is celebriies , politics, and wether Will and Kate are gonna have a baby.... The news media sucks.

  • @borncoza That is completely true , american hollywood tries to change history with actors in films. People watch it and belive thats what really happened , when the truth is far from

  • wow a great lesson history

  • 10 492 vues est déjà un joli score. 1 seul qui n'aime pas (peut-être une erreur?), ça résume le boulot de cajun...Encore une preuve que ça touche, peu importe la nationalité...

  • That was quite interessting to see! Thanks for upload!

  • A perfect story for a TW shogun 2 mod !

  • @Pr1nc3Marth Who cares about your point of view, you're nothing.

  • @CptFoupoudav I think he talks about the fact that Hollywood always re-write History...

  • Génial

  • that's interesting, B/cos of the movie "the last samurai" I thought he was from America, and yet he was from French.

  • @melbourneopera yup. Hollywood is the scum of this earth.

  • hollywood est l'école de l'acculturation

boycotons cette merde : n'allons plus voir ces champs de navets au cinéma

l'histoire est écrite par les vainqueurs

ou quand les vainqueurs sont en réalité "la banque"

  • Great vid. Thanks.

BTW, I hated the American crap that was passed off as The Last Samurai.

  • Incredible history

  • thanks mr cajun for all these videos, every day i learn more and more about my my beautiful france and i'm proud of it, thanks again

  • hollywood bullshit...take best story and change the country for USA! the movie Patriot

show french with only 3 boat again British for help USA it's a non sens!

  • Absolutely beautiful video, well done!

  • WOW. FREAKIN AWESOME.

  • Awesome video and thanks for it:)

    Cheers

  • The real story is much more epic than this hollywood bullshit...

Trois mots me viennent à l'esprit:

    Loyauté- Bravoure- Honneur.

    Merci ++

  • Let us honor the memory of the samurai Saigo and Jules Brunet and all the fallen samurai who fought for freedom. Rest in peace

  • Great post!!!! Thanx

  • wow what a story:) i love it

  • those who learn japanese history in my country know that the war against the pendagon-shaped castle (3:10) was the final war in that chaotic times. the meiji emperor didnt have any ability to control the military nor pursue the civil war after the calm edo period. the government must have looked for military experts among others coming from france, england, america and dutch. the new meiji government hired him means that he was in the confidence of the government. i really wonder why...

  • @roygbiv330 because they something in him a FREEDOM FIGHTER :) peace

  • Magnifique! Très belle vidéo! Je croyais que c'était un anglais qui avait inspiré le film Le Dernier Samouraï. Comme quoi on n'est pas assez informé...

    Félicitations donc.

  • What a great video, again. I wish it could be longer... :D

Music totaly fits with pics. Congratz man.

    Passionnant, continu.

  • Thanks, first time i watched one of your video but not the last one!!!

Great job et fier d'etre français et vive l'histoire

  • Samurai Saigo and his soldiers at 1:34

They supported the Emperor because they thought the Emperor would give them glory and peace to continue with their Samurai warfare. This was their biggest mistake though, because when the Emperor had crushed the Shogunate, he turned war against Saigo and the Samurais. They were actully the last Samurais. In 1877, they fought a battle (400 samurais) against the Imperial Army (30 000 men). They all died...

  • @Strategos300 YEAH A VERY SAD STORY I GUESS THE EMPEROR WAS BRAIN WASH!!!!
