Great video! I remember waking up hearing the noise off these bad boys, i personally thought War had broke out with russia lol I didnt hear nothing about this in the news or anything. Great show it was tho from my bedroom window :D
Thanks for that.Mine is a Canon Ixus 951S,recommended to me by a friend, its small, which is better for me.This just has a 3x15 zoom lens. The 1 problem I have with it,it does movies in AVI,which wont play on my windows media player,so I have that to sort out.I also took a video of the fireworks, but its too long to put on here, but I 'm not sure how to shorten it..Guess I will have to read up more,lol..Thanks again and I will show my friends on Facebook how good yours is.
ha! I have fireworks too, and some other bits of boats and singers, plan is to make a short video of everything. VLC player is a good free video player that will play almost anything. Editing is another thing all together. I use Adobe Premiere, which you can geta 30 day trial of. There are some free ones, but I'm not sure what to recommend. Windows I think has Movie Maker built in.
Looks like your new camera has a good zoom .Mine was expensive but dont think its as good as yours..I just had aching arms,lol...Any tips from you would be appreciated,lol...and would you mind if I posted your video on my facebook?
The camera I used is a Panasonic Lumix GH1, it's mix of a stills camera and an HD video camera. Expensive, but I justified this by the fact that it's abou same price as buying one of each. The lens it comes with goes from 28 - 240 mm and has pretty good image stabalisation. Had to use manual focus and the viewfinder rather than the LCD screen. I also cheated a bit on editing, by cropping the full HD video to 720, which almost doubles it again without loosing quality.
As for tips, well, the more you zoom in the more difficult is is to hold steady. Try and play with manual settings for exposure etc. practice as much as you can to gain confidence. I'm still practicing every time I use it. One day I'll be happy with what I shoot. Facebook OK.
I should explain a bit more, while you got me thinking about it. The camera was all set on manual, manual shutter, exposure and focus (if you look about 1:10 you can see and hear me changing shutter speed mkaing it lighter/darker. If I had left it on auto it would have compensated for the light sky and made the planes too dark (like shooting somebody in fornt of a window).
before they came over I zoomed in on a flag, made sure I could see the detail with the sky behind and kept it about those settings. The editing zoom thing is harder to explain but imagine an A4 size photo and I take an A5 frame and place it in the middle, then get rid of the outside. main thing is experiment with manual settings.
This is absolutely brilliant! I was there too,as you saw,but apart from having 1 hand bandaged up,it was also my 1st attempt at videoing outside...and with a new camera...well done!
Thanks, this is new camera too, very pleased with it. My back was killing by the end of this, I hope people appreciate how much we suffer to bring them these videos!

All I did was point a good camera at them, these guys risk their lives in combat, and their flying is just sublime. Sort of makes you proud.
