We must join with the forces of Darkness so that we can one day vanquish the lights of artifice and civilization that obscure the cosmic Æthers so. Embrace the Shadow.

Growing LP make me very sad. More and more lights... It's really improtant problem, but we can't do too much...Cities will be more lighting, because people want to have light, safety streets. Only we can have downlights - that is our last hope.
Dark sky will be forever. Maybe only in mountains or on Arctic...
But don't worry, we can go for a night into the dark places...at least...
Sorienor has a point. I have seen news reports stating that extended blackouts increase crime. I know it's not scientific evidence though. Could you site scientific studies rebutting that claim Neutrinoghost?
Projecting lights downwards wont have much of an impact in my estimation. Our street lights are all projected downward but light the surface of the road so brightly that it will reflect a lot. Without street lights it's a lot more dangerous to drive at night.
I understand your point, bit I'm guessing (as you have said) that most of your thoughts are based on assumptions. If you search google for CFDS (campaign for dark skies), you will find many links on there to counter many of the common arguments regarding lighting and safety. Regarding road use, I was under the impression that lit roads had a slightly higher accident rate than unlit roads. I too will investigate further.
@shraka the light/security issue is largely misunderstood. There are plenty of references showing how dangerous too much light can be. As for crimes, it has been concluded several times that light is JUST a psicological factor when thinking of crimes: several studies by different institutions show that after increasing the light quantity in some areas, like parks, there was a sensible increase of crimes. This is a brilliant example to properly address this issue.

@astroguyz Thanks for the comment, your lucky, I grew up just a few miles North of a very big city and currently live just outside London, I've still never seen a propely dark sky :0(

I would love to show this to the world!
Why we react to the destruction of a monument, without moving a finger against this terrible cultural crime?
Thanks for this, guy!

Sooooo..you want everyone to go back to only being productive and safe from sunup to sundown just so you can see some stars?
sorienor 2 years ago
I don't think you've really thought about and/or done your research into that question have you?
Please explain what productivity and safety have to do with external poorly lit buildings and streets? With proof.

Cool vid; I was fortunate to grow up in Northern Maine under pristine skies; such views are tougher to find these days...thanks for posting.
