i just learned about him last night , my son is only 3 but i intend to teach him about Miyamoto Musashi. he was very intelligent man, one of reasoning and overstanding. i love how he says respect the gods but do not rely on them!
@whouwantme2b My Judo instructor gave my the book of five rings as a gift when I was about eighteen,it was the most important book I ever read next to the Holly Bible. If you havent had a chance to read it you should.Dont be cheep if you do and get a quality version with the extra history you will find it more enlightening.
@WushuMaster1 There were other great swordsman in Japan living in different era. Musashi was one of the best of his time. Kojiro Sasaki was pretty amazing also. Musashi was not better than him, he was just better than him in this particular fight. Could have been different if they would have fight another time.
@Ryokushindo Perhaps but that means nothing when only seeing it based on skill. See Mushashi was a great swordsman and a great strategist. Greatness means nothing when you are completely blinded by your own conceit or set "rules" Mushashi understand that ultimately rules didn't matter in a life and death fight because it was a matter of survival. It's kinda like someone who thinks they can get by looks alone.

Just wanted to mention (if no one has) if you wish to look into Musashi art, he painted under the artist name of Niten.

Yes! the cutting skill is now very useful or pragmatic in the art of cutting sushi.
Some even say, that that..you can advance to be a supermarket butcher, too!

The best of Musashi's skills is his planning. He fought with planned strategies using any advantage situations above his oppoments.

@MrWer1138 Musashi was heavily influenced by Sun Tzu's works on warfare. If you havent, read "the art of war" and you'll see many similarities.
