  • @9meteors @AntDX316 It's not better. I have seen both Jeeps and G Wagen's stuck. Or pull each other out. G Wagen owners frequently suffer from a superiority complex failing to realize that a fair amount of Mercedes engineering went into the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and it's factory lockers. Not to mention that I have seen trucks with lockers get stuck when a vehicle with open diffs doesn't. It's about driver also.

    Yes sort of.

    It was essentially to get rid of old taxi mercedes cab from the 70's. The kind that has huge trouble to get up the hill and keep puffing huuuuuuuuge black smoke from the exhaust.

    As a matter of fact it also forbids new diesel cars that are far less of a worries in term of pollution.

    Only trucks are allowed to be diesel.

  • @ahage4x4 i would hope so considering the price difference. a 10 year oldused jeep fully loaded will cost you maybe 10 grand. a used mercedes g class of the same year is about 25 grand stock. it better perform for that price.

Because that should have taken 45 seconds driving in the exact same pathway if he just chose his driving lines and the amount of power used more carefully.

  • @dean3451 in stock, jeep will probably stop earlier than G-class, just because G-class has 3 locking differentials...enen 1 wheel with traction is enough to keep moving.

    but thats just my opinion, based on the equipment of each car

  • @dimos47ki7 i tackle this sort of terrain quite often in my 01 silverado, that has IFS and i don't ever seem to have any problems, it doesn't have locking diffs though so sometimes i need to get pulled out of a situation, but imma put an air engagement front locker in it when i get the money then she'll go anywhere (: I don't really understand what people have against IFS, i know that a solid axle is much stronger but i've never had anything break on my IFS silverado. But then its a strong truck

  • @AVP830 no, i dont mean that an independant suspension would break for sure, but as u said a solid axle is definitely more durable, plus it allows bigger wheel freedom (i dont know how its called in english :s)

    as for free diffs, i think u can use the brake to simulate (at some degree) a locking diff.

  • okay so just to make sure im clear on on lockers work.. when a locker is on that means that both tires on which ever axel it is on are spinning with complete power, and when the lockers are off the tires that arent getting traction start spinning. am i correct??

    no, first all time 4wheel drive Gwagen (463 series) appeared in 1990, the 1987 is a part time 4wd (rwd) with 4wd high and low switchable on the fly.

    The 'newer' G wagens come with 3 lockers because they have a central diff (all time 4wheel drive), the G u see here is a part time 4wheel drive thus no central diff nor central diff locks :)

    The lift is a "homemade" one, i'll try to get some info about it.

  • Rear diff lock or rear and Front diffs locked? Is that 4x4 or just 2WD with rear diff lock?

    I got 2001 PreRunner 2WD with Rear diff Lock Not sure can do any of this or just use only when got stuck! Thanks for Infos.

    Both Front and rear lockers, part time 4WD (2WD + 4WD high + 4WD low ratio), that's a 1979 Gwagen.

    You cannot do such figures with a 2WD vehicle. Too bad your preRunner is a 2WD you could enjoy it even more !! :)

  • Mercedes has had the technology longer than that, My 1962 Unimog has Lockers on front and rear. They sure knew what they were doing when the started building offroad Vehicles.

  • actually mercedes had the technology back in the 1930;s a fully independent, 4wd, 4 wheel steer fully diff locked, It was called the G5
