I see: Adrian Vandenberg & Steve Vai in the description ?
Someone surely would've post this before, but Adrian didn't record this song, due to a bicycle accident. he wrote the parts, but the recordings are ALL Steve Vai. Love the song anyway !!
I wish this album had no vocals, John Sykes is Whitesnake in my opinion, I wish Vai named the record but I'll settle for the musical piece, beyond my comprehension no less in the lead department.
I've known Whitesnake since I was 8 years old after hearing Bad Boys. Yet for some reason I just discovered this song today - what a awesome piece! Instantly one of my favorite songs ever. Agree with everyone here - INCREDIBLE!!
I love this track its a great piece of work, the whole album is fantastic - but mine was stolen some years ago now and I never got another copy of it. So I'm glad these are on here as I'd never hear them otherwise :-(. INCREDIBLE
John Sykes is the nr 1 guitarist for Whitesnake, period. There`s guitarists and then there`s musicians :) Sykes doesn`t overplay one bit, always plays what`s best for the song. You can`t do it better than that.Technique isn`t everything, (Sykes has great technique, just listen to his alternate picking, smoking) and the power and the tone on the 1987 album is unsurpassed. Sykes is also one hell of a writer and a singer, check out his Blue Murder. Fucking awesome.
"Adrian Vandenberg has revealed in several interviews he thinks Vai's flamboyant guitarplaying was somewhat inappropriate. He thinks a more bluesy approach would have suited the album better." - I think that Adrian Vandenberg is an idiot. Probably he was jealous at Steve because he couldn't even dream to play like Steve.
I have their full discography and all in all(my opinion), Steve was the best guitarist that band ever had. Steve could play Blues Rock if you told him to, but knowing that the 1987 album was much heavier than any predecessor, it was logical to expect an album like Slip Of The Tongue. That album left so much influence on the band that now each and every song sounds about a thousand times heavier than the original. I appreciate Blues, but pure virtuosity I consider more important.
@TwistedMindCroatia ok, you are entitled to your opinion. He sure is a great guitarist. Yes, 1987 was much heavier and it was logical in a way that slip would be more so. But it was TOO much more so, in my opinion, which had not been the case if adrian would have played.
Steve is a gifted tehnical player. Absolutly wonderful, one of the best. But when it comes to the blues "feeling" he just does not cut it for me.. Just my personal opinion. Still it sure was a great album
@TwistedMindCroatia I agree with the conclusion a bit, but not for the same reasons : the blusesy Whitesnake is good, but 1987 had killed it dead already...
When Campbell left the band , VAnderberg thought he would be the lead guitar, but suddenly Coverdale hires Vai ; that upset Vanderberg; besides i remember reading somewhere that ,while the band was in Canada recording the album, Steve Vai was in LA recording guitars for the same album. He only joined the band fot the tour.
@TwistedMindCroatia I do remember that now that you mention it. I think Vandenberg had some problem with his hand during recording. The live version on Monsters of Rock sounds good though and he was back by then.
Gunslinger Stunt Guitarist (Vai, via Zappa,) fills in for Adrian on this album! Vandenberg was injured and could not get the tracks finished. Solidarity, Shredders!!
@evermetal2 these guys arent posers. they are gods. listen to this intro!!!! epic!!!!! this album didnt make it bc of his hair. it was SSOOOOO much ore than that
because he is in his own band and because steve vai doesnt want play in a band like Whitesnake or Deep purple he wants play in a band that only are solos
This was the line up of the friggin ages: Steve Vai & Adrian Vandenberg on guitar, Rudy Sarzo on bass, and Tommy Aldridge on drums with Coverdale singing his ass off as always. GREAT album.... You cannot get a legendary line up like that.
@MetalHeart8787 Fuckk Noooo!!!! David Coverdale is better singer than david lee roth... i agree with you with billy sheehan but... C'mon... Coverdale has a more powerful voice Than Roth...
ha! they left this song outta the book for a reason. nobody should be able to play this amazing solo unless they are good enough to work it out for themselves, and then they deserve to be able to play it. no cover versions of this solo on here i notice. wonder if i will be the first to do it. in another 2 years when i figure that part out haha

@JiMdOgG070679 ..VAi was a terrible fit for Coverdale.......He's a guitar God,but not with the bluesy style that Sykes grought to the band
trevLV 1 year ago
@trevLV Steve Vai was brought in for that reason. DC wanted a new sound to break the bonds of the blues rock thing.
shredjoe1 1 year ago
@trevLV sykes brought to the band?
please..
who are the real blues players in the bands history?
bernie marsden, micky moody, and mel galley.
they diverted from that somewhat with sykes, but even more with vai, yes.
vai is not a bluesy player, wouldnt say sykes is a bluesy player either to, but to some extent I suppose.
leppardsnake 1 year ago
@JiMdOgG070679 yeah sorry BUT the Vai lineup from 86-88 was the BEST!
Steve vai, Billy sheehan, greg bisonette & DAVID (LEE ROTH) not coverdale singing.
Rudy, tommy & vivian were not even on the 87 tape. but most people saw them in the videos & were
giving them credit for the songs. whitesnake has had too many lineup changes, its become Blacksabbath.
white snake = the David coverdale Band.
