Please note Francis Coppola, that's what a Napalm strike really looks like. Iff the sound for this was better, this would be 2:17of the best airshow footage ever shot.
The biggest problem is that a lot of folks seem to think that if disarm the rest of the world would do the same. It happens every time. We fight a war and win then they cut the budget to the bone. Then the next war comes along and we have to fight like we are in a gunny sack for about 6 months. After 6 months we have built our strength back up and we go to kicking butts again. Nuclear weapons & terrorists changed all that. We won't have 6 months. Maybe, if we are lucky we will have a week.
thanks for the video - imagine this today ! Weapons hot with grandstands ! Busting the sonic barrier.....heavy aircraft flying in horrendous wake trublence !.........beautiful.......what a show.

Long live the warriors of the Stategic Air Command.
I heard somewhere that the large fuel tank under the B-58 also, because space was at such a premium, housed an H-bomb. Does anyone know if that's true?
@63gstone It is true the "pod" contained all the ordinance for the place along with fuel. There was a reconnisance pod as well that replaced the bombs with cameras and radar mapping eqipment as well.
@raynus1 seeing a B-52 doing a max perfomance take off at McConnel AFB in the early 70's was SPECTACULAR...that was the day I learned the B-52 flaps it's wings to get in the air. ;^)
And a second point the UK French and the rest of the world are amateurs compared to Swedish check out any Saab aircraft, the grippen is there masterpiece.
Well at least in the states you get full airshows at AF bases in the UK we get family and friends day that's good because it's a bit more personnel but around my area we get a lot of low level AH-1s ( AH-64D) on training but they're are about most evening
When I was a kid of less than 12 around 1960 I lived in New Hampshire not far from Pease AF base. I was crazy about planes. We lived on a hill and we had them flying by all the time. Lots of B-47's, B-52's, KC-135's doing mock refuelings, Starfire and Starfighters. All military aircraft, all the time. Always wanted to see a B-58 but I never did. I always thought that pod was an A-bomb.
BTW, thx for the great vid. The polished aluminum has given way to composites, and thermal and radar treatments, and though I like the slick modern aircraft, it's still great to see the cold war machines, even if it's only online. When I was a kid, our hometown parade was overflown each year by F86s, and later, Super Sabres. What a rush.
Not sure how liberals figure in, & never seen a protest in 30 airshows I've been to. As pointed out, costs are hi, & with 2 wars in play, aircraft aren't always available. But for anyone looking for a good show in the Midwest, I'd suggest Dayton OH, Louisville, KY, the latter of which usually features solo & formation F117, B1 and/or B2, B52, A10, F4, 15,16,18 & 22, plus C130, tankers, Apaches, Cobras & WWII birds. Quit complaining, get off your couch and actually go see one.
@bathat11165 The B-58 is the first USAF fighter jet that I see with delta wings. F14 maybe? I thought it was the preferred technology for English and French. Beautiful plane! Unlike the huge spare tank of fuel.
The U.S. Air Force still does this (or at least did in 1998) at a traget range in Wisconsin. I was a gunner on a Huey (one of about 15 of us who qualified that day). They had F-16's and A-10's runing strafe on a target that recorded hits. We would qualify in between their runs. Nothing like the wrrr of a 20 mike-mike, unless you hear the 30 from the A-10. Awesome. Sure sounded better than our 60's mounted on the huey's.
In the 50's and 60's, USAF B-52s used to fly live nuclear airborne alerts all around the world. If WW III ever broke out, we always had a bomber close by. They ceased after an accident and "live" nukes had to be recovered.
I don't think there were any live "special weapons" (nukes) aboard these aircraft. In fact, when I was in SAC the only time nukes would be in the air was aboard LOG AIR civilian contractor aircraft which would fly them from the assembly sites to the user bases. Only then would they be loaded onto B-52s on nuclear alert which never flew since we never lauched World War III. This was probably for liability reasons. If LOG AIR blew up a state they could always declare bankruptcy. The USA could not.

@JflyG if you were the age of most of the people in those stands you'd be dead right now. Or so old you're drooling on yourself and some 50 yo kid changes your diaper. Hey the 50's were great, cigarettes were touted as "refreshing!" they ran water thru lead pipes and you didn't need seat belts as the steering column punched through your chest when you hit bare concrete bridge columns anyway. Just a few short years till you get sent to Vietnam! LOL.
@hwoods01 Yeah, too expensive now to waste actual military ordinance for airshows... cheap bastards... yet they can fork over billions of dollars on planes that aren't that great..
This is great. I grew up in the Army back during the 80's and early 90's, and when we were stationed at Ft. Hood in '84-'86, they'd have live fire demonstrations very similar to this. Of course the only jets we got to see were F-4 Phantoms, but there was still plenty of REAL firepower on display in the form of AH-1 Cobras, AH-64s, M-1 Abrams, Bradleys, etc. Sadly, these demonstrations were only opened to military families.
I grew up an AF brat on SAC bases, and am truly blessed for that experience. Sure do miss hearing sonic booms. We have become so pussified and spoiled, an old fashioned airshow seems unreal. Sure do miss the old days . . .
I like the F-100 firing the drone and then shooting it down. It's like pitching up a can and then drawing your pistol while the can is still in the air. Cute trick anytime.
an air show where they fire missles and drop bombs?!?!? OMFG what happened to airshows?? this is the shit that would make my ass show up!! lets seem shoot!!
WOW!!! that was great seeing the b-47 ,52,58. even the f-100. even better,....LIVE MUNITIONS...i wish i could"ve seen that. maybe then i wouldn't have to stick my head in a top fuel dragsters exhaust pipe for smiles. great video!!
That video is cool! I was stationed at Nellis in '95. And I recognize those hills in the background.... Sure is amazing how it's changed over the years.
Man, those were the days... Fast jets in buffed aluminum struttin' their stuff for the citizens who paid for them. Yeah, people are right to ask, What happened to America?
It's a little scary. Young people have no idea what they missed and what our country used to be like. Try to stage an airshow like that today and it would be besieged by the EPA and war protestors.
I was talking to a former employee who joined the Army.He 's leaving for Iraq for the 3rd time. He is a throw back. He tells me all the time that he and his bros, try to emulate those of us who came before him.He makes me proud of my service. HE makes me think there may yet be hope. The ydon't seem to buy all the media propaganda.
@pxjanders Yeah, ...though you really shouldn't blame EPA... ...and, frankly, I don't see many war protesters around airshows either...
Both cost of aviation fuel and the planes have skyrocketed. I think maybe one tries too hard sometimes. F-16 was a step in the right direction. A step backwards to something simpler. I really groan inwards when I see the F-35. I wonder how many knows what that plane would have cost, had the planned production numbers been cut to the same level as F-22.
@pxjanders I've been to TONS of airshows, and have never seen a single protester.......We have amazing planes today that are just as powerful and awesome as the cold war era planes..........Oh and what happened to America? We don't think its right to kill the first person we see now, we realized theres a whole other world with different countries and interesting people.
I reckon. We have things that go bang at shows here, but none of them drop out of an aircraft. A napalm demonstration would be good on a cold frosty night.
yeah lets all write our congressman we all deserve to get an airshow like that hell i would even pay one pretty penny to see it unwrap some of those century series at davis mountain bring them back for a reunion tour
lol... yeah..i want napalm at my next airshow..throw in some sidewinders.. amazing how some of those aircraft are still in service... saw the low level inflight refuel at airshow in 60's
WOw how times have changed! WHat happened to this country. THose folks were not clamoring for war , just proud of who we were andthat those service men wereso good and dedicated at what they did. What happened to America?
WHile the US was moth balling its military, and making babies: what was the USSR doing? For that matter what was USssr upto while we were trying to end the war to end all wars? The US is not perfect, but it is far better than any other, name another nation that holds itself accountable like we do.
I was being a bit sarcastic. My point was that there was a really good reason not to "clamor": When your enemy is just an ideological opponent who hasn't actually attacked you, and who happens to have a whole pile of nukes with your name on them, being "peace-loving" comes naturally.
Many of those same folks WERE clamoring, after Pearl Harbor, and rightly so. Just as we clamored after 9-11. Sometimes you've just gotta do what you gotta do. The U.S. doesn't like war, but we do what we must
As much money as I pay in taxes...I think the Fed OWE me a live fire demo once a year. After all, I paid for the friggin things; the least they could do is let me see the bang for the buck.
Ahhh hahhh bet that C-130 at 1:30 is still in service

I grew up an AF brat on SAC bases, and am truly blessed for that experience. Sure do miss hearing sonic booms. We have become so pussified and spoiled, an old fashioned airshow seems unreal. Sure do miss the old days . . .
longrifle48 2 years ago
I attended this show in 1959. I still remember the heat from the napalm.
asteroceras 2 years ago
..and you're only 27 years old. All those F-100's were a long distant memory before you were born, huh? Did you screw-up your profile?
jonesy97 2 years ago
hahahaha great show they didn't have no whimpy safety concerns back in the 50's did they?
TheJomogogo 2 years ago 2
I like the F-100 firing the drone and then shooting it down. It's like pitching up a can and then drawing your pistol while the can is still in the air. Cute trick anytime.

"OMFG what happened to airshows??"
The safety nazis is what happened.
All these rules and governmental controls on every step you make and every breath you take are 'for your own good" you know.
Thanks safety nazis! You're doing a great job destroying freedom in this country!
StereoSpace 2 years ago 4
You are SO correct.
Personally, I blame it on the proliferation of personal injury lawyers, and their influence on politicians...
Less government = more freedom.

You gotta love this - peace through strength! When men were men and catcus were scared!

motored911 3 years ago
That video is cool! I was stationed at Nellis in '95. And I recognize those hills in the background.... Sure is amazing how it's changed over the years.

What an airshow!

YEah! Raising hell with the desert today!
PS - Tell the Starfighter guys not to do a flyby, stalling out of the air at 300kts would not make for a good show.

Mais respeito para com a Pessoa de Raul. Ele bêbado é muito melhor que muito neguinho que canta por ai hoje em dia.

Man, those were the days... Fast jets in buffed aluminum struttin' their stuff for the citizens who paid for them. Yeah, people are right to ask, What happened to America?
It's a little scary. Young people have no idea what they missed and what our country used to be like. Try to stage an airshow like that today and it would be besieged by the EPA and war protestors.
pxjanders 3 years ago 42
I was talking to a former employee who joined the Army.He 's leaving for Iraq for the 3rd time. He is a throw back. He tells me all the time that he and his bros, try to emulate those of us who came before him.He makes me proud of my service. HE makes me think there may yet be hope. The ydon't seem to buy all the media propaganda.
hamace 3 years ago 2
i'd do anything to go to an airshow like that.. live munitions! thats a real airshow.
PS - loving that Hustler!
kineticdeath 3 years ago 11
@pxjanders And the safety nazis.
supressorgrid 1 year ago
@pxjanders Yeah, ...though you really shouldn't blame EPA... ...and, frankly, I don't see many war protesters around airshows either...
Both cost of aviation fuel and the planes have skyrocketed. I think maybe one tries too hard sometimes. F-16 was a step in the right direction. A step backwards to something simpler. I really groan inwards when I see the F-35. I wonder how many knows what that plane would have cost, had the planned production numbers been cut to the same level as F-22.
Vermiliontea 1 year ago
@pxjanders I've been to TONS of airshows, and have never seen a single protester.......We have amazing planes today that are just as powerful and awesome as the cold war era planes..........Oh and what happened to America? We don't think its right to kill the first person we see now, we realized theres a whole other world with different countries and interesting people.

if you want to live in the past go ahead and invent a time machine
scavenom2008 10 months ago
I reckon. We have things that go bang at shows here, but none of them drop out of an aircraft. A napalm demonstration would be good on a cold frosty night.
tweetingsparrow 3 years ago
all i have to say is my generation has be raped of airshows like that:(
drftdmon82 3 years ago
Your right, it must have been fun for both the crowd and pilots. Do what you want just don't kill yourself or crowd, and DO NOT break the aircraft.
biko0909 3 years ago
Wow!!! F-100, F-101, F-102, F-104, F-105, F-106!!! What a time that must have been to live in!
oisiaa 3 years ago

1z1q 4 years ago
So ladies, what aircraft is STILL in use. The clock is ticking!
biko0909 4 years ago
KC-135, B-52, C-130. Any others?
Bucko44 3 years ago
uuhhhhh the f102 (joke) i think it had the shortest service life out of all century series
1z1q 3 years ago
I would guess B-52, KC-135, and C-130 in the US.
Velikan121 3 years ago
lol... yeah..i want napalm at my next airshow..throw in some sidewinders.. amazing how some of those aircraft are still in service... saw the low level inflight refuel at airshow in 60's
irish89055 4 years ago
WOw how times have changed! WHat happened to this country. THose folks were not clamoring for war , just proud of who we were andthat those service men wereso good and dedicated at what they did. What happened to America?
hamace 3 years ago 3
One doesn't clamor for war against an enemy with a thousand hydrogen bombs.
mqbitsko 3 years ago
WHile the US was moth balling its military, and making babies: what was the USSR doing? For that matter what was USssr upto while we were trying to end the war to end all wars? The US is not perfect, but it is far better than any other, name another nation that holds itself accountable like we do.
hamace 3 years ago 2
I was being a bit sarcastic. My point was that there was a really good reason not to "clamor": When your enemy is just an ideological opponent who hasn't actually attacked you, and who happens to have a whole pile of nukes with your name on them, being "peace-loving" comes naturally.
Many of those same folks WERE clamoring, after Pearl Harbor, and rightly so. Just as we clamored after 9-11. Sometimes you've just gotta do what you gotta do. The U.S. doesn't like war, but we do what we must
mqbitsko 3 years ago
As much money as I pay in taxes...I think the Fed OWE me a live fire demo once a year. After all, I paid for the friggin things; the least they could do is let me see the bang for the buck.
psayre33 4 years ago
The Century series alone were worth the show - the B58 was the icing on the cake.
pfm66 4 years ago
Now THAT was an airshow! Real missiles fired, awesome! And the B-58 was SPECTACULAR!
chronos624 4 years ago
i'd give my right nut to have been at this air show!
