My first time listening to them, I'm only 5min in and it seems already to me that they have potential to become one of my favorite bands, they are excellent! I'm really trying to enlarge my Prog vocabulary and this obviously was due by now :) Masterpiece
My favourite album (as a Hammond player!) is Still Life, followed by Godbluff followed by Pawn Hearts (and the rest!). Hugh Banton was a huge influence on me and responsible in part for the Hammond collection I have today!
i really want to 'get into' van der graff. any vets have any suggestions for a rookie? one can't really can't determine musical quality by comparing video play counts. i heard peter hamill on robert fripp's 'exposure' and thought he had a great delivery. given that i'm a huge fan of king crimson and pink floyd, what VDGG albums would be up my alley?
I have seen Van der Graaf Generator / Peter Hamill. They are awesome. The only way i can describe his music, especially for his time in the early seventies was very progressive existentialism music. My favorite song of his was "Still life". Yes, this music is very deep but so real.
This album is so unique, but not unique in the way that it's way out there and an acquired taste, it's just so rocking but in VdGG's own unique way. Difficult to describe.
