  • Stevie Nicks and Don Henley. Just saying.

  • @KatelynNinja1215

    Just saying what?.... really?

  • @KatelynNinja1215 Exactly! They definitely take a lot from the meticulously crafted pop of the 70's. I frequently listen to Bitte Orca and Rumours back to back; they work so well together. But they also incorporate art music and atonality in a way those artists didn't really. Except for Prog Rock I guess, but Dave Longstreth claims to hate Prog Rock, so I think it's that they're taking from similar sources in an independent way. Sorry if this is scatty, I'm super baked.

  • Voice of a sweet bird hear on top of a godly instrument. i do call on you.

  • I wouldn't listen to it all the time, but it is beautifully composed. I love the girls voice as well, a marvelous song!

  • not my type of music but that shit sounds really nice.

  • ive listened to this at least once a day for a week or more

  • I KEEP COMING BACK TO THIS VIDEO .

  • Glad These Days is in the side banner all things considered.

  • St. Vincent brought me here.

  • The violin in the backround really hit me with this AWESOME SONG

  • @comoesta777 Geranium Kisser. xD sorry. It may make more sense now though?

  • 17 people don't understand real music

  • And the quest to find lestat77's comment begins...

  • This song sounds like something a girl would be singing from her window to the birds as a boy walks by on the street below. Naturally the boy would hear her once and fall in love.

  • whoever thinks this is lame or stupid clearly have no idea of art. :)

  • @BalloonsExclmatnMark Have you heard your own videos?

  • i love this song more than wine :)

  • Its a really pretty song, but the lyrics have nothing to do with eachother o_O

Skin like silk and face like glass

Don't confront me with my failures

Kiss me with your mouth open

For your love, better than wine

For your cologne is really fragrant???

  • @Galaxyix

The notional speaker of this song is a young woman with either a husband or serious boyfriend, who just found out that she is unable to conceive a child. "Our bed is like a failure..." is the key lyric that ties together this story of how two people that really do love and adore each other re-tool their expectations and figure out a way to move forward with a hard limit on what they can be together. Like some of the best songs of our generation very sad but ultimately hopeful.

  • @Galaxyix Most of the phrases in this song are taken from "the Song of Solomon," a book of the Bible all about romantic love.

  • Somthing about this just holds me and keeps

me replayingg,(: New Fan you can say'

  • This reminds me of the dark cold fall I spent in chicago

  • Single Father brought me here

  • I was walking around one day and I saw this interesting looking guy walking in front of me. For some reason I really wanted to talk to him, so I ran up to him and shouted "Excuse me?" When he didn't notice I realized he was listening to music. So I stopped and yelled "HELLO?" and he whipped right around, startled. I didn't know what to say so I just said "What are you listening to?" and he said "Dirty Projectors" I have been listening to them since. I guess spontaneity leads to good music.

  • @tubuhflub it may have been me.

  • I cant stop listening to this gorgeous song, it makes me happy

  • Lame hipster music, huh? Whatever, people who say that are just hipster death con five anyways.

  • i actually feel sad when people talk about gaga and skip over true beauty

  • This is cathartic.

  • 15 people are alone

  • Her voice is angelic, and reminds me of Inara George.

  • Guitar is obviously from NIco - These Days. I don't get what this band is going for, but it would be cool to talk to them.

  • @lestat77 It kinda reminds me of "See the Sun" by the Kooks. I can see the resemblance though.

  • @lestat77 The song is really identical.

  • @lestat77 There are alot of similarities in addition to that, for example the strings, and they both say " don't confront me with my failures".

  • @lestat77 "don't confront me with my failures" is the last line from These Days. I didn't even notice the guitar though, i really am curious now!

  • How could anyone dislike this song??

  • Ace song. Check out psychedelic all-girl trio Stealing Sheep, Dirty Projectors' English sisters. youtube.com/watch?v=-VYO0DHYMvg

  • It all starts making sense when you hear songs like these.

  • my knowledge of good music brought me here

  • @silentmelody12 you're so underground.

  • So soft. ♥

  • lovely.... these lyrics are straight out of Song of Solomon. One of the oldest love poems out there, you can't go wrong...

  • The first time I ever listened to this song was coincidentally the first time I ever tripped on 2C-E.

It made me love my trip that much more.

    <3

  • check out this cover of the song-

    youtube.com/watch?v=Ewc0SbMuoTE

    incredible.

  • @ilikefatneeks AGREED.

  • zorgitron, you seem to be an intellectually enlightened individual but I would like to respectfully say that you are incorrect in proclaiming that this group has a severe lack of talent. The supposed generic quality you say is present is only inexperience to the depth and beauty of music. I personally do not see my self as a higher subject just because i enjoy the sounds produced by the dirty projectors. My music library is vast and in a society that has creatively died, DP stands out

  • I listen to this to go to sleep sometimes :) haha this is one of the most beautiful songs ever produced.

  • This song is great! Very comforting melody.:)

  • I love this song!! And theres an AMAZING cover floating around youtube by mreebee3 you should check it out!!

  • zorgitron

  • @mthinton hahah

  • zorgitron ur so negative if you dont like them stop listening to them and posting about them. you have nothing good to say any of their songs. we dont care we like them deal with it.

  • @MrShawntalay Hey, I'll keep posting as long as people keep replying :) I'm not speaking negatively, just truthfully! I'm a minority! Are you saying that minorities shouldn't have a voice?!

  • @zorgitron We don't give a shit if you're a minority or not, you're just being an asshole. And MrShawntalay is right, if you don't like it, stop posting.

  • @Death2Heath I don't see the reason to stop posting if I don't like something. If something sucks, it should be posted about. Just like you thought I was an asshole, so you posted that to me. This music is a crime against humanity, so I will continue posting. Who is this "we" you speak of? Do you actually know these other people who posted?

  • @zorgitron You know what? I'm just going to stop this before it goes on because this is, in all honesty, a waste of both of our time. Do as you like, because I honestly don't even know why I cared in the first place.

  • @zorgitron your a useless piece of shit that doesn't know good music when he hears it, that is if im reading your comment correctly and i didn't miss anything. now what kind of music do you listen to?? metal? techno? shit that all sounds the same? mainstream shit? FUCKIN REPLY!

  • @Mr2toneskinhead What does my taste in music have anything to do with the topic at hand? Absolutely nothing. But the large majority of DP fanatics seem to think that just because they enjoy this type of music, they are intellectually superior, the most open minded, and on the cutting edge of music compared to normal mainstream people. And therefore, "haters" are the totally despicable, close-minded caveman, who's opinions are WRONG. Your whole fanatical society is completely insane and retarded.

  • The vocals are very repetitive throughout the album. There are just a handful vocal accents and delays that they reuse over and over again. Bad singing is not experimental. Just a well marketed band, not a good band. This will be in every Starbucks soon.

  • @zorgitron let's hear some of your music zogitron. Or at least a band you recommend. With such expectations as you have, it must be amazing.

  • <3 this is my favorite song evahh

  • Song just like happiness....

  • My goodness. Thanks a ton, Jon. This is wonderful ;)

  • Pretty easy to catch the Jackson Browne These Days line but did you catch the two Dylan lines?

  • @chewy204

No i didn't, good eye! The only one I heard was "Skin like silk and face like glass," which is slightly different than Dylan's lyric but you're exactly right. What's the other one?

  • Comment removed

  • @davedaveisdavedave "Geranium kisser" is also a dylan reference, isn't it?

  • This makes me soo happy even though the words aren't very happy but the tune's fantastic :D <3 xxxxx

  • This is beautiful. I want this sound. Its moving.

  • mreebee3 rocked this!!!! she's better

  • white music

  • @LuisDivision Music has no color:)

  • @tyla140 It does if you have synesthesia :P

  • @DustyMadman Truth!!! Which I just so happen to have! :]

  • @FallenShards That is SO awesome!

  • i would say this song had much influence from the Bible book The Song of Solomon

1:1-4 and 5:10-16 maybe? depending on the translation

  • @camden321 It's true, what a good eye/ear you have !!! It must be influenced, it's very likely, or just a heavenly coincidence hehe

  • @camden321

Yes, and the line "To the chamber that conceived me" fits with both 1:4 and 3:4 nicely as well

  • such a beautiful voice.

  • oh my goodness. this song is so perfect. its just perfect.

  • Beautiful song.

But I'm confused by the line 'face like glass.' What's that supposed to mean?

  • Oh my god. <3

  • This is soo romantic in a way !!

  • garbs.

  • It's reminds me of Joanna Newsom it's amazing !!

  • Interesting!

  • why do i feel like dave longstreth didn't write the lyrics to this?

absolutely beautiful song. the lyrics arent bad theyre just not great

  • Reminds me of Eisley, but without the amazing vocals :/

  • so much self-inflation... has there ever been an epidemic of spontaneous human combustion in dirty projectors fans?

  • This is truly poetic and relaxing. Why can't music sound like this more often?

  • all my friends like suff like snoop dogg and usher... i think im the only one who likes this. ;)

  • No comment... oh.. wait never mind...

  • man sind die gut :)

  • This song is beautiful!!! :) I'm only 13 and I know I want this song played at my wedding haha.I guess that I have a weird taste in music bc I like this kind of stuff more than Lady Gaga.

  • @musicnote74

You do NOT have weird taste. You have a good ear, a healthy soul. Keep listening to this music, whatever catches your heart. This is music for the top bananas. Welcome to the club.

  • @musicnote74 I hope I never hear anyone repeat "I have a weird taste in music bc I like this kind of stuff more than Lady Gaga.". You're taste in music is perfect - be happy your not ignorant and tone def!!

  • @musicnote74 it's not weird taste dear, it's good taste. =]

  • @musicnote74

you have to be a pure genius to like this music at such a young age

    i adore you haha

i just found the dirty projectors about 4 months ago and im 14.

  • @musicnote74 listen to this. not ke$haaaa or gaga.

  • @EmMaLo672 this is real talent and real beauty. gaga could never make this happen

  • @musicnote74 Lady GaGa is good but it's another stile, you just got an open and very good mind for music haha

  • Comment removed

  • @musicnote74 I'm 13 too! Trust me, you don't have wierd music taste. I personally think this is much more beautiful then Ke$ha. Haha

  • @musicnote74 at last, someone talking sense! :D

  • @musicnote74 This song is gorgeous! I'm one and a half, but that somehow makes my perception of it as lovely more appealing! I guess that I'm pretty weird, most of the other kids only sing the stupid songs from Dora

  • @OswaldtheFourth HAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAH you're fantastic, it took me a minute

  • niceee

  • For a second I thought it was the Dwarf Fortress music playing in the background.

  • In this song, Angel Deradoorian's voice makes my heart sing. I can't put into words how much I enjoy hearing this song.

  • Angel really owns this one =D

  • @STxza Too beautiful.

  • in several places, quarter-sized holes emerge from the snow, a trail of tiny prints leading in and out. Meadow voles, probably, and just the tip of the iceberg. The 18 inches of snow covering this grassy plain is home to a thriving life zone of mice and voles and bigger things, like short-tailed weasels, that come for the rodent buffet. Most of that drama takes place unseen to our eyes, until next spring, when the dead-grass tunnels show up in suburban yards and wild landscapes alike.

  • nerd

  • @czech698 Tell me you have a blog so I can read your tidbits and feel civilized and depressed all rolled into one.

  • happy song :)

  • Isn't all cologne really fragrant?

Though, the lyrics are extremely composed of words, so it all evens out in the end.

  • All lyrics are composed of words...

And there is no extent to which words can be composed. They either are or they aren't

I hate to be that guy but you kinda contradicted yourself. :P

  • @ DonnieDarko - hey there, I was just being sarcastic.... you know, in the spirit of the fragrant cologne lyric. So, it was intentional contradiction - intended as humor, and now thoroughly anti-climactic as such.

But this artist is pretty nice, eh? Quirky lyrics and all.. They remind me of a little act called the 'Dirty Projectors', very much a group not dissimilar in nature.

  • Oh, haha.

I feel like an idiot now X^D

  • = ]

  • you sir, win on quite a deep level.

  • in the words of donniedoomsday, I hate to be that guy but... PWN'D!
