I was WW3 when these two played in the playoffs from the mid '80s to the early '90s. Loved it. Didn't like either team, especially the Pistons. Loved it to death when Laimbeer gets in with McHale, Laimbeer pushing his hand in McHale's face and benches clearing to start brawling.>:D
definitely one of the more underrated 4th quarters in NBA playoff history (maybe because the Pistons lost this series 4-1). When the Microwave was hot, there wasn't anybody hotter.
I hated the Pistons during the "Bad Boy" era, but I loved Vinnie Johnson. He lit up a lot of teams, and I'll never forget his game six performance at Portland in the 1990 Finals. He scored, I believe, 8 points in the final three minutes, including the game winner. It was incredible... I mean, he owned the Blazers in those final minutes. He'd do the same thing today.
Dont fucking now but all i can say true NBA Basketball existed 1980-1990, the golden 80s. Where true defense existed, when the 3 point line used to be fit for real shooters and when BETTER TEAMS WON OVER THE LESSER TEAMS. From 1991 its just about protecting a one styled game called MICHAEL JORDAN and the pussy rules: of no handchecking, no triple teaming, no real charge, zone defense and 3 point line accesible for bad shooters etc
this is a great video thank you. vinnie johnson is one of my all time favorites. best nickname ever.check out username nbaclassics he has some good stuff there
I remember his nickname (before DJ dubbed him "the Microwave") was "the Brooklyn Bridge", thanks to George Blaha and John "Crash" Mengelt of WKBD Channel 50.
Great stuff -- thanks for posting this. Of course they were playing this game at the Joe Louis Arena because the roof of the Pontiac Silverdome kept falling apart in spring of 1985.

Handchecking was outlawed prior to the 94-95 season not 1991.

Why does the NBA suck so comparativley much now?
jackhitts08 4 years ago
Think it is expansion and free agency. Both these teams would win it all if playing now

Another guy that gave the Celtics fits back then was Andrew Toney of Philly. What a bunch of great teams and players back then!
