I have never heard your group before, I love it. The close harmonies are amazingly in tune and to hear you all using the same vowel unlike many choirs where the vowel varies from singer to singer adding to the tuning difficulties. Why is this an area many choir conductors apparently miss??!! Adding to the tuning is the fact you are all singing fairly straight, little vibrato except to add warmth at the end of your sounds, very Scandinavian Choral style (Eric Ericson like). Congrats, excellent.
Can this be considered Irish mouth music? From what I've heard when it comes to Celtic music...Scotland has more mouth music than Ireland...am I wrong???
@GhostWritersDragon Ireland has nothing similar to Puirt a Bueil, or Mouth Music, unless you include "lilting", which has a certain amount in common aurally with piobaireacht. This piece is a modern piece, so isn't part of any tradition. The same applies to Anúna's Dúlamán as well.
@GhostWritersDragon Ireland's mouth music has almost died out in live performance/recordings, you can find it in archives, Irish Traditional Music Archive etc. A cool one would be 'An Barraile' (second song on track 3) of Julie Fowlis & Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh's 'Dual' album. Hope you like it! =D Search youtube for 'Julie Fowlis and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh' [=
I love all of anuna's music, although I have to say I prefer the guy's songs over most of the girls. Except Heart's Cry and Lift the Wings from Riverdance. Thanks for posting!
Your music really speaks to my Irish/American soul! Thank you! Any idea where I can find Irish choral arrangements suitable for my high school choirs? Are any of your arrangements published?
@MichelleL548 I hope you know just how lucky you are. It would be such a wonderful experience to be taught by any of these fabulous singers, and I pray I will have the distinct pleasure of hearing them live.
My college performed this song as part of their Celtic Concert series last week. I thought it was beautiful, and I have to say, the original is even better! Thank you for shring this with all of us on YouTube!
No. The history of Ireland is very complex. People of my generation studied it in school. I was lucky to spend a year speaking Irish when I was ten. I love the language, as it is very old, and I love writing in it.
ok my question on media vita probablay wasnt clear enough. Its a traditional Gregorian chant...correct me if im wrong, The composition other groups/choirs use, is yours right? or did you model yours after someone elses. and as for the impact your music makes on people i understand what you mean now, i draw and it comes from the heart, and guess what helps me create??? YOUR music. you give me so much inspiration, and i am so proud to have been able to ask you these questions(ofcourse if it really
is you) and yea Anuna is very special. i have one more thing to ask you..would you mind if i posted Greensleeves (first song i ever heard by you) or August, i have an idea for a video and dont want to post it if it will just get deleted. :) <3 u

As much as I love the group... How awesome would it be if a fish flopped out of the ocean and smacked one of them in the head?

'Invocation' is one of the most perfectly recorded albums I have in my collection.
When listened to on a good system the purity of the singing voices and harmonies will absolutely sweep any listener away, I guarantee it.

ok i have a few questions...can you please post cormacus scripsit and lux aeterna. please.
who is/was Cormacus
was your media vita the "original". every group i listen to has the same composition except Nicolas Gombert's.
i was reading one of your other posts and you said that you really dont care about your influence/impact on people through your music...true???
are you really Michael Mcglynn
and what was your reason for starting Anuna, had to be more than just love of music?? right??
oxeosxo 3 years ago
Cormacus to come - Lux not yet.
A monk in Ireland.
no.
No - I don't write it to have impact. I do care if people are touched by it, but couldn't care less about their opinion if they don't like it.
Yes - but not always. This address is used by a number of people. Its me today.
Yes - Anuna is very special, and really I can't say more than that about it. Thanks for asking : )
