There really should be national do not call lists (that work), or the telephone services should provide a no telemarketing option. If you know you're never going to buy anything from a telemarketer, it's really just a waste of everyone's time and patience. How many times does one have to repeat, "I'm sorry I'm not interested. Can you please put me on your do not call list."

It gets to where there's no point in picking up the phone. Good thing we have answering machines...

In the UK, register your number with, Telephone Preference Service. (google it). MAKE ALL COLD CALLING ILLEGAL..!!!. Piss them off, waste their time, keep them talking..but give no information about yourself except stuff u r making up. Never confirm your real name or address..

Having spent quite some time on the other end of the line it never fails to amaze me how afraid people are of telemarketers. It's REALLY easy to just say "no thanks, have a nice day" and be done with it. People lose all basic civility and manners when they talk to telemarketers. If someone said some of the garbage I've heard to my face I would punch their teeth out. The most annoying people are the spineless idiots who can't say "no" and instead say "I'm busy, call later".

@ihmesekoilua The reason why people get so insulting to telemarketers is that it's not uncommon to be harrassed day after day by these unwanted and intrusive phonecalls. Not only that, it's not uncommon for the polite approach to simply not work. An example is one of my experiences, where the same company phoned me around 10 times about exactly the same thing. They did not leave me alone, despite my polite refusals, until I totally lost my temper and screamed down the phone at them to do so.
