If that guy is an expert, i must be a chuffin` genius ! Where did he learn that technique ? From watching Mr Bean or the 3 Stooges ! Somebody should introduce him to a Builders Merchant for a Hawk & Trowel,or at least "Point" him in the right direction.
I'm In Local 1 Bricklayers & and allied Craftworkers Union out of New York City. I work with Brick and Mortar all day Long and this guy is a complete moron. First off you need your mortar to be a bit dryer than what he's showing, and use what is known as a hawk, or the back end of the trowel you will need to mix the mortar, to set your mixed mortar on. Then you will need a tuck pointer to push the mortar into the joint between the brick. Mortar should be moist but not wet, as it will stain
"Nothing beats applying this with your finger tips"... what an idiot. People, i work with cement, lime, bricks all day long and trust me, the less you get on your hands the better. it will suck the moisture from your hands and it will cause the skin to crack and its sore. do not follow this plonker.
expert hey? best way fingers? whats wrong with a jointer?
and really you dont need to wet it ( thought you were worried about water?) u only ever wet the joint if say yout filling in joints above windows or doors when they are upsidedown because the dampness helps the mortar stick instead of falling out
or you could just use a grout bag like a normal person and strike in or rake ur joints. im sure its a pain getting smeared mortar off them brick...esp those textured brick
get a book at the library and look under brick pointing.....then use a hawk or flat sheet of metal and slide the raw material with the pointing tool, push the exact amount into the crevice and don't make such a mess
oh my days, i thought i was an amateur, this guy has made me laugh so much, that my diy anxiety is at an alltime low, for now, oh shit my angers are back
Jesus dont use your fingers. Its not a concave joint its a rake joint. Use your slicker to fill in the joint and then use a tool called a rake. Dipshit
Actually - the propper equipment for the job is something brick layers call a rat tale. You would use the rat tale which is like a short-blade knife with the curved blade to work the mordar into the crack and give that nice, uniform indented line to match the rest of your joints.
This is worst than a poor rating. Homeowners forget it!!!!!!!!!!!!!In the worst way. Please remove this video. I can explain why no only is this the worst thing you can do but would cost you possibly several hundred dollars more to clean the mess up and redo it right.
Doing repairs like this guy is asking for disaster. You will find yourself paying more to clean wall after you complete job then it is worth it in the first place.
If You need tuck pointing done in Chicago area call me I`m profesional 773-589-2091.
Please, do show us how to rake out.

get a 1/4 "slicker for $3.99 dumbass , also you got to joint it / wire brush the stains and light brush it with a broom .
