  • I love the guy in the background with the shiny gold jacket

  • he didnt put his finger back on to g# to hold it and release pedal at 1:15

best performance/qualitys i heard of grieg concerto so far.

  • the boy plays piano good! :)

  • оххххх.....

    это ПИАНИСТ МИРА № 1 !!!!!!!

    ОН ЛУЧШИЙ!!!!

    SUPER-STARRRR!!!!!!!!!

    охххх....такого я никогда не слышала...

  • nobody shreds this cadenza like Andsnes

  • Genius: 0:00 - 2:05

  • the orchestra entrance is genius

  • 0:27 - 0:29 is so haunting!

  • Andsnes is a deep and sincere artist with passion for what he does.

  • He is not gay. He lives together with a female partner, but they`re not married yet i think.

  • AMAZING!!! i love this guy. He's the best.

  • awful jacket of the man in the first row

  • the first thing i noticed... all i could think of is why the hell is the french hornist sitting in front row?

  • Jeez, You're right! Is he wearing gold foil? This is Proms, not the Moon!

  • his interpretations are spot on.

  • Leif Ove Andsnes has go to be the best piano player in the world. Watch his hands in this video and you will see how amazing he truely is. He definitely channels some great energy into his piano playing. He's the best clearly and continues to be the best in every performance that he has.

  • Unreal, unbelievable, and amazing. A truely outstanding performance.

  • Fint!

  • heia Norge! Heia Leif Ove Andsnes fra Norge!

  • Interesting performance by Leif Ove.

    Udmerkt prestasjon, Leif Ove. Gratulation.

  • Where is the very first part of the Cadencea?

I like the freshness of Ove's playing.

He plays it in quite a theatrical way,but it kind of fits. However, he does make some mistakes (not in the cadenza, but in the part before, in the other video 3:50) and pushs the tempo (for example when there is a stretto) to the very limit!

  • defo 1 of the best to play the grieg concerto and he is very talented i saw a south bank show on him a gd few yrs ago and he played rachmaninovs 3rd piano concerto and how he played that i hav no idea but defo 1 of the greats

  • Leif Ove Andsnes is a great pianist no doubt. I have followed the entire concerto with the music sheet in my hands and could not find any technical or musical shortcoming. I completely agree with daywithering, Andsnes is an outstanding artist of the piano

  • I have been learning this concerto, I can play the notes but not to proper speed. I have been working on this for 3 years. I am 65 years old, retired microbiologist, and love the piano. What is your suggestion on the fingering for the left hand with the Cadenza in the first movement. You help is appreciated. Joe McMinn

  • anyone have teh sheets for this part? thx

  • nonsence leif is great

  • His recording of Bartok's piano concertos are really good. I doubt many other pianists can play those concertos.

  • man i've got to buy the cd!

  • Leif Ove Andsnes is the greatest pianist of all time! Better than Argerich, Horowitch, Pollini, Pogorelich, Berowsky, and many others!..

  • thats a very bold statement...whats your reason?

  • It is nice to find a virtuoso who understands the lyric soul of this music. So many of this generation consider faster to be better. Bravo Leif Ove!

  • The cadenza of this concerto is a tour de force for any piano virtuoso. Great pianist, no doubt. Look forward for the full version

  • One of the best I've heard, including Ignaz Friedman's. The Audio Engineer, too, outdid himself. On my little PC, I heard real High Fidelity for the first time. Splendid.

  • I just love his interpretation of this piece. Unlike other fad pianists of this generation, I think he's got true staying power as his art gets deeper. That said, his first recording of the Grieg Concerto (for Virgin Records) is better than his second recording for EMI. By the way, who's that gilded queen sitting in the front row at the beginning of this clip?

  • lol i thought i was the only one who saw that haha

  • wow ,he's realy good

  • Will be hailed as one of the 21st century's best. Awesome.

  • I really like that interpretation, it's great !

    thank you for sharing!

  • Caspar.. with who did you meet him and eat him.. Just asking :P

  • Last year while on a trip- I heard a recorded performance on NPR of the Greig- I thought it was Rubinstein- it was Andsnes!! WOW!! He will be one of the great pianists!!

  • He IS one of the greats my friend. He really is.

  • i can't wait for the full version!!!

  • Please post the whole concerto! I met Leif in Amsterdam, I had dinner with hem! He's a very nice person.

  • this is andsnes when he was just a little bit away from perfection in the interpretation of this piece. :)

but he managed to record the best performance of the concerto with berliner philarmoniker later on. still i am waiting for the full version

  • r u back yet? Please hurry!! Hahahaa just kidding.

  • Yes, please post the full thing!

  • ok ... i'll do it when i'm back from holidays (i'm now in ukraine) ... i also need to 'edit' the whole thing ...

  • im from ukraine? where in ukraine are you? lol or were you

  • in Kiev of course and in Zaporozhye where my family in law lives. I can say that Ukraine is my 2nd home.
