  • Hi, really enjoyed your video. What do you do with it in the winter in KY. Do you bring it in the garage, or can you leave them out. Any other info would help. would also like some of the lotus seed you talked about.

  • @TheDonnakidd Hi Donna - For your area you would want to pot your lotus and then bag it after it goes dormant. Place it in cool storage where it will not freeze and then put it out again in the springtime... with fresh aquatic fertilizer of course!

  • Thats the way I like..

  • I forgot all about my water lotus seeds I got from you. I am going to start them right now. I will have to find out how to over winter them though. It gets pretty cold here in winter.

  • so much wind!!!

  • THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH it worked so well THANK YOU AGAIN

  • Thanks! That was very informative! I'm planning to grow my own lotussus, starting tomorrow. Do you know how big a pot should be if your planting 'em in a pot?

  • @funGODfun A five gallon pot is perfect for growing water lotus seeds. Make sure to keep them warm in the winter and you should do just fine :-)

    Hey, it's me again :)

    Another question:

I planted my seeds after 3 of 'em hatched into a pot with 5 inches of soil and 5 inches of water. The longest plant is about 5.5 inches now, but it hasn't developed a leaf yet. Instead, all plants are growing above the water without a single leaf. Is this normal? And do you know when they finally open up they're leaves?

  • @funGODfun Hi - 5 inches of soil sounds good, but 5 inches of water sound too shallow. I would plant in at least 12 inches of water. Make sure you DO NOT fertilize the first year. Snails and some fish will eat the lotus leaves. Lotus need lots of sun to grow the best. My best lotus babies are growing in pots inside a pond instead of a small container. The weather is a little chilly at night, so tuck them in at night with a hoop house or plastic tarp. Let me know how it goes!

  • @pondplantgirl

Ahhh... THat explains a lot! :) THanks

Now that I know that, I think I'll put 'em in my aquarium anyway. It's heated, so I hope they'll grow faster in there :D

Hey, it's 6 months later now. Unfortunately, all plants died after they had developed 4 leaves. This year, I purchased a lotus tuber and I started 2 seeds. The tuber is in the pond now, and instead of keeping the other lotusses inside, I transplanted them to a sunny position outdoors. I hope they'll grow big this time :)

What should I do in the winter? I'll transport the tuber to the bottom of the pond where it won't freeze, but I don't know how to keep the new lotusses safe...

  • Hello. I had a question about the artichokes I bought from you. Do they need anything special to make it through the winter in Visalia? Currently I have them in the ground.
