Bruno is portrayed like a little man, his father even lets him drink. but he looks soo young and unable to enjoy his childhood, he has to work to help hos family survive. its heartbreaking
Wooowwwwwwwww.... Only on YouTube does everyone have to disagree with everyone else and have a fucking ridiculous argument about nothing. Mature. You both are fucking retarded and should not speak to each other if you disagree. Who cares what the theme is?? I just want to watch the damn clip!
@KublayKahn and whatever compelled you to mention the most obvious theme in the movie and it being the reason for your liking of the film surpasses the idiocy and united redundancies of mankind...
@KublayKahn yes...because i was being sincere when i said i like sex and all that jazz- that was actually my attempted equivalent to your first comment. i was aiming for something just as bland. and even tho your comment was obviously relevant to the film whereas mine was not, i still think i take the cake for having the more thought-provoking comment.
@KublayKahn i think you're confusing my effort to end this conversation with your delusion of me giving up. apparently you're not aware so i'll be the one to inform you: to take the cake means to win. i ended it-or tried to- after claiming victory, but you insist on continuing this ridiculous conversation...so go ahead and get the last word in if it makes you feel any better because i'm done. and just try not to misinterpret any more simple expressions.
@KublayKahn one more thing: stating the obvious does nothing more than take up space, hence your initial comment and this drawn-out episode of bickering.
I think all of us can relate to the father at some point in our lives. We all just want to be able to provide for our families and make an honest living, but sometimes life hands you a shit hand of cards and there's nothing you can do about it.
I took one university course, "Social Realism and the Italian Cinema" about 25 years ago...of all the extraordinary films, I watched, this was one of my 3 favorites.. Also recommend " I Compagni" and "Seduced and Abandoned"...
I had asked earlier what is the song that is played by the band. its Tammurriata nera. But actually i was wondering the name of the second song that comes on as this clip ends
This was an incredible movie and just as relevant back then as it is today. Some people just have no idea how incredibly devastating theft can be to another person. The same thing happened to me when I was a kid. All year I saved up to buy a bike so I could get a paper route and when I got it, one day I rode it to school and chained it to a fence and when I came out it was gone! To this day 30 years later I still fantasize about killing the person who did it. The agony that f*ck put me through!
This film changed my life. I saw it when I was 17 and my political view was never the same after this master piece of humanism. The emotion I feel is as strong today as it was back then. One of the best films ever made.
a men whose bycicle was stolen is arrested when he try to get one for an honest work ; on the other side a professional thief of bycicles was protected by his scum and ignored by the burocracy of laws. Strong Moral teachings by the movies. One of the best tale.
@IvanFilorusso I think you missed the point of the movie. By a mile. The film isn't supposed to be a morality tale about the law and bureaucracy, but about the bleakness and lack of hope for working class people in post-war Italy. There's a reason that De Sica chose to cast no professional actors (similar to Eisenstein's casting habits).
Does anyone know what the name of the song is that starts to play at the end of this clip. (its the second song of the restaurant scene) I want to learn this on my fiddle.
oh my god this scene seriously makes me cry... i hate the situation ricci's getting himself into. and i hate how that rich boy can eat anything he wants to while ricci and bruno have to suffer :-( ug. SO SAD. i should stop watching this film, since all it does is makes me depressed!
That's a sign of a great film though, you feel the emotions that the characters feel. If a movie doesn't make you laugh, cry, angry, ect... it's not worth watching.
A great film. All non-actors. The father was a worker in a steel mill and the boy was pulled from the streets of Rome. He (the boy) went on to be a math teacher. The father went back to the factory, but got alot of flak for his work in this film from his fellow workers (jealousy I imagine)
The kid is amazing in this film. No professional actors in it either. My favorite with the boy is toward the beginning when he's cleaning up the bike for his pop and he goes on dramatically about how it was dented while at the pawn and how he would have said something about it if it were him. And, there's a scene where he falls down and exasperately informs his father of his tumble! It's a great work ... if you don't like foreign flicks then see it for at least the kid.

What makes the film so great is the actors weren't actors and the emotions they're expressing in the film were very real.

Magical film. A perfect example of why humanity has the need to make films. And why, when done well, they're so important to us as sentient beings.
