The train adds a cool feeling to this video. I am a Northerner, and hearing the history and the accent makes me want to visit. The speaker is a natural story teller. Great Video!
been awhile since i've watched this one a few months ago i was looking through movies at a pawn shop and was surprised to see a vhs movie called Matewan i've watched it a few times and would recommend it to anyone to watch
thank you sir i'm obsessed with west virginia and american history in general it's great to see the actual footage those sure are steep hills i grew up in the tailend of the appalachian mountains in nova scotia eastern canada this makes me want to research the coal-mining history up here shocking to hear about the conflicts
Also your Matewan tour videos are so interesting. Maybe someday when we get to that part of the country you could be our tour guide..LOL Thanks for posting. In fact we will be in Nashville in Feb. , to attend and compete at SPGMA 2009. Take care and Merry Christmas
Hey there Tommy, I really enjoyed the videos you posted. Checked out quite a few of them , but not all of them as there are so many. Really liked your bluegrass segment and the dobro work on Great Speckled Bird, it was so enjoyable to listen to. It reminded me of years ago when we use to sit in our old homeplace growing up and playing those old tunes.
Great tour! Matewan's history is amazing especially through the 20's and early 30's! Thanks again for the street view tour and a brief synopsis of its history!
I was born and raised in Matewan, and my dad owned the Silver Dollar when it was across the tracks from Main Street. It was good to see the place again. It's changed a lot since I was last there in 1997 or so.
I love Matewan.. didnt know you were from there. That is great... I am a born and raised west virginian. Been here all my life.. This is surely God's contry. This is surely a good place to learn some WV History. You told things here that even I didn't know. Thank you for posting CountyBoy Yes!!! God bless!!!
Interesting. It's nice to hear from someone who lived in that immediate area and not just a fan of the stories and movies. Thanks.
