Part of the Dawson 'image' was mostly behind the scenes. Both Charles and Brett stated in their interviews that Richard was more 'standoffish', as in he didn't really 'mingle' with the rest of the stars during dinner/lunch breaks.

Thankfully his attitude problem(s) didn't cause problems with his ability to answer questions--but it did rub several other stars the wrong way.

Richard definately feels like he wants to leave the show, with his back showing at the beginning. I'd say his enthusiasm began to wane toward the end of '76 after Family Feud starts to become successful, and as Feud moved into Syndication in the fall of '77, Richard got even "colder" of MG; and the Star Wheel was the nail in the coffin to a once proud panelist.
