That was funny how he says "Now what would you do if I grab you around the throat like this." and then she locks him up and throws him and says "Id do that." and then he CASUALLY SAYS "Hm that's very interesting." like a typical brit.
@kf4ydh The techniques showed are Ju Jitsu technique... Judo was kano ryu ju jitsu... judo wasn,t focused on self protection... This is pure old ju jitsu..., sure, if you know how to see it!
this is so perfectly Brit - and the humor, expecially at the end is quite chamring.
I just wish she had finsihed them both off - on elittle throw isn't enough, you know a little muy thai blasts, break a couplle fo ribs, arms, legs, etc. she was too compassionate.
bro this is either judo or aikido but is not really jiujitsu, some of these techniques are taught in jiujitsu but they're originally all from aikido/judo, mostly aikido
Based on the clothing styles and sound quality, I'd say this film was the late 30's or early 40's. They certainly weren't talking pictures until the late 20's, anyway.
It's funny but you never hear about women getting mugged and so on back in the 1920s, 30s, or 40s...But they must have felt the need to make a film about self defence. My old grand father who lived in Hanworth, West London kept a club under his bed back in the 1930s. So they must have had concerns about intruders and being burgled back then too.
@OonaCanute, of course, you're right. What was I thinking? Imagine someone on YouTube actually posting comments addressing sexual issues !!!! Please accept my deepest apologies for bruising your conservative Catholic sensibilities.
@OonaCanute Sexual issues??? gbwisconsin was talking about feet being used to literally rub it in how much better trained she is. This is a self defense video; this isn't a porno dude, or chick, whichever you are. I see no sexual issues on her end. Maybe you're a descendant of one of the guys who got his ass kicked 30 times in this video? Either way, sexual issues? I mean seriously, which side of your ass did you pull that comment out of? Not everything is about sex or sexual natured.
@drc1981, you are 100% correct. My original comment was asking about the woman rubbing her foot in the guy's face as a gesture of implied humiliation, and nothing more. OonaCanute was the one who made the sexual implication, not me. OonaCanute, suppose you kept your idiotic comments to yourself. There are responders on YouTube that will eat you alive if you offend easily, Cutes.
@gbwisconsin Well don't feel bad; I have had my share of stupid remarks on Youtube. Some people say things or assume things over the internet that they would never say or assume in person. This whole thing could have been avoided with some simple nonjudgmental mentality, er something. Uh huhuhuhuh Cool
well as you may be aware Judo was developed from jujitsu....jujitsu is used as a means of self defense hence the application of tome nage etc.....Jujutsu in its traditional forms consists of striking also...for lack of a better term it is the complete martial art...
@jujutsufan Judo has Atemi waza, is not used for sportive ways and only certain students are selected to learn it, but is part of the The Way. So I don't know what you are talking about. If you like martial arts so much you should inform yourself before arising misinformation about them.
@UrineArtist LOL! People constantly comment on how Judo and Jujitsu people can't fight without a gi, then when you see a demonstration in actual street clothes (of the time), people are still lame enough to criticize.

Thats corny BS. How many people are going to immediatly just let go when the woman attempts to defend herself?. The first thing these clowns are doing is letting go of their hold when the woman grabs them. Thats silly.

Judos rules are a little restricting to jujitsu, bet to say that judo is far inferior is silly.
The so-called Jujitsu techniques shown here from the 1920's - 1930's are actually used in Street Fights and Brawling in the U.K and Europe.
So in any case , i could rather call this as Street Wrestling or Grappling.
In the 1897 - the police started using Jujitsu when Japan was forced for open trade. So , some of the more well educated Japanese Masters have stayed overseas and started teaching Jujitsu to the Constables.
Reminds me of a classic harry enfield comedy sketch :) ...if i remember correctly the date of the first JuJitsu book published in the UK was in 1893 (mainly used by the police, i think).
The match between Jujitsu and Judo is not as balack and white as it seems. Judo came from Jujitsu and at the time of the match most of the Judo men also had been students of Jujitsu. same as old Judo. Kano said judo consists of Throws , Grappling and strikes. yes correct, but how about when it came down to which martial art was going to be used for Japan's police force....the best(according to high ranking people of that martial art)of jui-jitsu was put against Kodokan's most competitive players and altogether judo won.
I still think it would be more accurate to say that the Kodokan Judoka dominated the ju jitsu practitioners; they won 12 of the 15 bouts in the contest the Tokyo police dept held. But my earlier comment was a reply to armsbarr more than anything else. MMA is based very heavily on ju jitsu, but it's tough to have a level playing field becasue when a competitor from one art meets someone from the other the tournament will be working with AAU rules (ju jitsu) or IJF (judo), not a composite of both.
In style, this seems pretty similar to modern Small Circle jujitsu (self defense orientation, standing takedowns, there's even a kind of wrist twist). Check my video for some examples of Small Circle moves.
This was a news reel from 1937, she's great, an early version of Emma Peel.
She was probably a military girl and a self defence instructor, with moves like that I bet she was recruited by the OSS when the war started 2 years later.
Imagine her in black leather taking on the Krauts.
Jujitsu is NOT a blend of Aikido and Judo! They came from Jujitsu which is the first japanese martial art. Kano Sensei created judo because people were dying when practicing Jujitsu.
Do is the sport method and jitsu is a way of living. Jitsu arts tend to be brutal and Do tend to be sporting.
Jujitsu is a blend of Aikido and Judo amongst other things. Didnt you see the hip toss in there? Judo, and many other jujitsu videos youll see judo throws. JuJitsu is the original art, everything else is a specialised off shoot

We're told that Judo beat Ju Ju Jitsu in 12 out of 15 matches.
We need to remember that Ju Jitsu is not a sport- so the set up of the matches would obviously have favoured Judo.
Half the techniques in Ju Jitsu are illegal in Judo.
I found Ju-Jitsu much more practical as a means of self defense.

You are right.
Jujistu and martial art experts where indeed recruited for OSS and marine combatives training.
William E. Fairbairn is a good example, along with Rex Applegate, Allan Costorphin Smith...

Are you talking about your own skills, or mine? Are all british men shorter than their women? Or are they just manlier than YOU (specifically).

the description says ''old footage from the 1900s-1930'' i don't think television was even avalible then.
But still nice video

i did, i didn't know television was actully that old.

It's a newsreel, not TV. Newsreels were like mini-documentaries shown in movie theaters before the main feature.

This is maybe from the 50's.
Amusing to see both men claiming to not understand a thing, but yet they have nice ukemi ;)
to daseidokid, it's not because the died, but to make it possible for competition.

Jujitsu is NOT a blend of Aikido and Judo! They came from Jujitsu which is the first japanese martial art. Kano Sensei created judo because people were dying when practicing Jujitsu.

in jujitsu jou kan make people hurt in teribble ways, it is nothing like judu, judo is the gay part of martial arts and jujitsu the awsome part
i juse only my fingers to defeat someone in jujitsu and that is alowed :D

Ignorance is bliss. JuJitsu incorperates Judo.
