kinda sucks they got rid of it. That was the only really cool thing about that beach. I've always thought that a ship wreck only adds to the scenery, and "cool" factor of going to the beach.
I use to work for resolve marine group as a salvor/deckhand after katrina. we removed alot of bots and refloted alot also. Man that was great work. spent weeks 200 miles offshore in the gulf. Are they looking for any good deckhands?
the ship was cracked and coming apart long before a NAVY demo team (not coast guard) came to try and burn some of the oil off the vessel before it broke apart completely. The heat from the explosives and burning fuel caused the ship to separate, although there was a large amount of explosives used. I was there standing beside the Governor at the time of detonation on the sea wall.

The New Carissa was blown up not broken in half. I know I was there after the whole thing happend and the coast guard was the ones who blew it up.
