@Scifiwriteguy In all reality, you're right. Some critics said his voice was harsh and thin, but that it played in well with the character he was portraying. The songs needed that cracking and breaking of sadness and depression and stuffs. Personally, I loved Alan Rickman's singing. It made me hyperventilate and melt!! XD

Actually, Turpin sent Barker to prison in Austrellia. It was on Devil's Island, so when he ecscaped as Todd, he used a raft. That's when Anthony spied him, and since Anthony was going to London already, and Todd wanted to go, it was just convenient.

ST is such a tragic movie... A man who expects to come home to his wife and child, only to find his wife (presumably) raped and murdered. And then he decides to "save" the lower men and women from tragedy, and "save" the higher-ups from being hated by the lowers. Damn you Anthony, Damn you to hell!

I feel bad for poor Sweeney...he himself said that it was a false charge and he was in it for 15 years. I can't imagine how anyone would feel after that, I don't blame him for craving revenge and it really must have been hell for his hair to turn like that (stress can do that to your hair). Johnny has such a soothing voice, I wonder why he was nervous about how it would turn out.

Sweeney Todd is actually a fictional character that first appeared in The String of Pearls: A Romance, published in a London Penny Dreadful.

Is anyone in this movie a good guy? Sweeney's a murderous barber, Ms. Lovett is a canibalistic pie chef, the judge is a lustful bugger, his "Beetle" is just a monster, Toby is a killer, and Anthony steals Joanna and leaves the asylum guy too die. I guess Joanna and Lucy are the only real Heroes, and thier only in the movie for, Maybe, 10 minutes combined.

He refers to "many years" away from London, but not all of it necessarily spent in jail. One assumes that since the memories it holds revolt him so (clear in the script and this ironic song), he likely resisted returning for some time. But in the end he was forced to; he couldn't live with his demons / run from his past, anymore. He knows a dark fate awaits him here.
