  • Dawson was the biggest horses ass. At the time, he and Rayburn were considered the stars of the show but Dawson's playboy persona has not aged well, and I think Brett's and Charles' immense contributions have come to be more appreciated over time

  • I watched this show and family feud when I was younger and I never found Richard to be self-righteous at all. I don't think he lost his cool or his temper here. He was more mad at himself than he was at the judges. I have always found the man to be a complete gentleman and personally I find calling him self-righteous and having a 'melt-down' completely wrong and I think you owe him an apology.

  • I dont have a link now but ive witnessed more than once him kissing young girls who were around 12 to 14 years old. In no world or time is that right and especially on the lips. People seem to have a blind spot where he was concerned and it disgusts me. Im going to try and get a lonk for you to see him in action. I know most here will say 'oh he is a lovely man he is just being friendly'.....ugh.

  • To be honest, I think that Richards actions were completely genuine, but perhaps misconstrued. There was a lot of stuff said about how Richard was constantly picked for the head to head match, and thats why they invented the Star Wheel. But I think one of the reasons people constantly picked him was that he would actually try to match the contestant. He cared about whether the contestant won or not, and that is why he's so upset. He lost her an easy point.

  • @Billtheawesome Thats wrong,Ive seen him many times make a so called funny answer which has no chance of matching the contestant. He just had by far the biggest ego.

  • @bluestriker4444 Ya, during the regular matching round. But during the head-to-head round, where it actually mattered and money was on the line, I've never seen him be anything but serious

  • @Billtheawesome Just the other day during the matching round a young lady needed the last 2 celebs to match to tie the other contestant and he gave a goofy unmatchable answer so sometimes hs did do when it mattered. There are so many things about the guy I didnt like I could go on forever.

  • Such a misleading title. Dawson's reaction is 100% tongue in cheek. How did you miss that?

  • King Kong definitely fucked the pony.

  • All people have good moments and bad ones. I know Gene Rayburn resented Richard Dawson as a show stealer. But if you watch Dawson's unaired farewell speech from Family Feud, you can tell he's a pretty decent guy deep down.

  • @PopcornNigel You mean like when he kissed even young teen girls on the lips on Family Feud? Yea,real cool guy. Can anyone say perve?

  • @jkat2000 Its not right for a man in his 40s to kiss 12 year old girls who he doesnt even know on the lips. If you think thats ok then you are the a@#hole here.

  • @bluestriker4444 perhaps i am - can you supply a link to such content so that i can judge for myself - those are rather strong accusations that you made against dawson - i've never read anything prior to this that suggests he's a pedophile

  • DORITO GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thumbs up for Richard. Gotta love the guy.

  • He draws New world order pyramid at the end?

  • @MrDavito2 He draws the triangle that represents Contestant 1; as in, he got the answer right (the triangle would have lit up if he did).

  • Yeah, no self-righteousness here.

  • What does Richard say at 3:24 when Gene answers with 'No I'm not'?

  • I laughed so hard at this. There is no way Richard was being serious here; he goofed up, he joked about it, and the judge was awesome for once and actually played along with it. That was hilarious. This should rank up there with the September incident as far as hilarity goes (even if for totally different reasons).

  • My mother used to smoke in the grocery store in the 60's!!!

  • I wouldnt call this a meltdown. This was his typical behavior, he was full of himself on this show.

  • I love when Richard gets SO pissy when the contestant doesn't take his suggestion for the Super Match, and if it turns out that would have done better with his answer, he's all "why did you do that" and giving them "told you so' looks!

  • 3:47 Richard got all cockney on us!! LOL!!

  • I think he might have actually been embarrassed about saying "sat on". I sometimes talk kinda like that when I get embarrassed.

  • I hated when they instituted the wheel at the end. I remember Richard always gave the best answers!!! <3 him

  • This show was kind of the beginning of "Reality TV", along with "The Gong Show".

  • Heehee, it was funny :P Poor Richard :P

  • I really do believe Richard meant to write down "ate". He's fantastic at The Match Game.

  • Richard is clearly having a bad day. Someone needs to kiss him and make it better.

  • Richard Dawson was totally burnt out from doing Family Fued during the week and taping Match Game every Saturday and Sunday...wasn't this the year he quit? That was a shame...he was so funny--I loved the banter between Bret, Charles, Richard, and Fannie the best. So funny!

  • I hate Richard Dawson but I still have a hard time watching Match Game where he isn't, because the regulars were the integral part of the show. They were Match Game.

  • It was accidental, but it was a good comedic answer like the "sit AROUND the house" joke.

Kong didn't sit in the saddle, he sat ON the pony.

  • richard is the best on the show ever!!!

  • he wasn't being self righteous, he was punch drunk...what he did, and was trying to explain, was no different than when, on Password, they accidentally gave the actual word instead of a clue

  • I cracked up so hard when I heard the TPIR "over" buzzer. I didn't even realize they had it on the sound board for Match Game, too.

  • @shawnkquinn Its the same studio 33 that TPIR is and was taped in, same studio equipment, same everything, I think they should have given him the CLIFFHANGERS over - the - edge crashing sound

  • This isn't a Richard Dawson meltdown, can't you all tell that he is joking.

  • Richard is so cool. Always been my favorite.

  • Jo Ann is HOT!!!

  • I used to do the avery schriber robot in the third grade made my mates crackup

  • Nothing self-righteous about him here. Video host just doesn't like him.

  • I was way to young at that time this show was on, however in re-runs on the game show network I just love richard in this show, he is so sexy, it's odd how they used to smoke on this show. When he left the show I stopped recording them because with out him the show wasent the same and I only watched it for richard. I think he brett and charles nelson riley were the game show, I love the banter between those three, and the way they handled the gay issue loved it

  • @trashyourplace Same here. I was just a tike when it originally aired, I actually thought it was bad because it wasn't "fair" - questions could be easy (having one great response) or hard & tricky, evoking a variety of response. Once Richard started doing Family Feud and they redesigned the set, calling it simply The Match Game, the magic never quite came back.

  • @yaggy9 Yeah Im 18 and I love Match Game reruns! For me Match Game is Gene Reyburn, Charles Nelson Reilly, Brett Somers, and Richard Dawson! Any episode without any of them just isnt Match Game for me! I feel like cringing when I see someone else in Richard's spot!

  • @trashyourplace i loved richard on this show he made it what it was..... i grew up on the reruns

  • gene is/was best gameshow host ever. he truly loved this game.

  • Best game show ever with the exception of the gong show

  • I love how he turns all cockney at 3:47.

  • if this was in our times he was of cussed the judges out .

  • he's just being hilarious! love him! haahah

  • Dick Dawson has the worst British accent that I have ever heard.

  • Richard was ill mannered, definitely crossed the line. Very undignified!

  • They say Dawson's off screen persona was totally different than his usual friendly on screen persona. The Rosie O'Donnell of his day.

  • @tryithere Oh god please don't compare Richard Dawson to that obnoxious fat ass. lol

  • Poor richard, tisk tisk tisk.

  • ya he felt bad for the contestant more than anything.

  • the background is sort of porno-ish

  • Goodson/Todman shows on CBS all had the same sound effects.

  • Ira Skutch died a couple months ago. He was in his late 80s.

  • Dawson wasn't being "self-righteous". He was just ticked off at himself for doing such a dumb-ass thing, and felt a bit guilty about depriving the contestant of a point. In any case, he never went beyond the bounds of acceptable Match Game behavior. He was part of the Match Game "family" and he knew how far he could push the envelope.

  • @TroyOi Do you have to use the a-word?? It is so crude!

  • @MagicMaureen46 You're right, sorry about that. I meant to use a different word, but I was up all last night doing a telethon and just wasn't thinking straight..

You must be from the Citizens' Committee to Clean Up the Internet. I wish you luck. You've got a daunting task ahead. ;-)

  • @TroyOi

lol, how trivial. there's nothing wrong with your earlier post using 'dumb-ass'. i give you kudos

for actually taking the time to participate in a legitimate debate where the phrase dumb-ass is

probably the best way to describe it. i think that post was skillfully worded.

it's strange that some people will equate saying dumb-ass to murder. i just say pull the tooth-pick out

    yo ass and relax

  • Wow, bad day for Richard. Feel a bit sorry for him, he almost lost it

  • If you heard Richard at 2:39, he was about to say the word "Shit". lol

    Richard Dawson is the MAN!

  • liquid courage.

  • I know Richard Dawson was known to be kind of big-headed, but I still love him and this is why! He's SO funny!

  • I still love Richard Dawson. I dont think we have the right to judge him. We have no idea what was going on backstage or in his personal life.

  • Not as bad as the ego of Bob Barker - at least Richard never fired people for what he did, and fessed up to it later on.

  • 3:18 And Richard is OVER

  • 4 MG Buzzers & 1 TPIR Buzzer for Richard

I like Gene's look after hearing the TPIR buzzer!

  • Who's Jo-Anne?

  • Jo Ann Harris. You can find more about her on Wikipedia.

  • Damn. They even gave him the buzzer from TPIR.

  • @NMC21887

It sounded like the furnace starter from my old house in Illinois.

  • @NMC21887 the reason is because they wanted him to shut up and they used a different buzzer!!!

  • Richard DID usually care about the contestant and their best interest, on both MG and Feud. He'd fight the judge to match something in the maingame if it was close. He'd fight to get a family back on Feud if he felt they were wronged during the maingame.

  • @zachhoran I agree - even though Richard was pissy on "Match Game" before he left, he ALWAYS had the contestants first and foremost in his mind, regardless of the situation!

  • Richard might have been an attention hog here but he certainly wasn't being self righteous. I don't think he really expected the judge to give him the point but he was making a joke out of his mistake (and I think the judge was playing along with all the buzzes.) I remember later on he made a joke about this again during the audience match.

  • @Kinoakim:

I agree with you. I think Dawson just had a brain fart and played it for all it was worth.

  • @colBoh ya he jack up its a joke from then on god chill out i mean WOW
