@yessoos I assumed that if the black was potted then it was game over and your opponent won. However, we're both wrong. This is taken from the English Pool League Rules:

"If the Eight-Ball is potted on any break, the balls are re-racked and the same player will break again. When the Eight-Ball is potted on the break, all other aspects of the shot are ignored."

Of course, the beauty, and sometimes the difficulty, of pool is the fact that there can be a lot of variation in the rules.

WPA rules on the other hand allow the breaker to either re-spot 8-ball and play, or re-break. So, one doesn't actually know the rules until one gets to a pub or club he's about to play in ;-)

Its only easy to pot the 9 on the break if either a) you cheat the rack by leaving gaps in the bottom 3 balls b) you again leave gaps but thats because you have no respect for the game and dont have a clue about racking balls as tight as possible!

Magic Racks and tapped tables reduce the golden break rubbish so much its untrue.
