I am not a fan of the secret garden, but I have too admit this song is wonderful, and I love how Michael Arden preforms it, I wish I could sing like that. wow.
We are doing this show at the local community college. It is a really good show. I play Lt. Shaw. But I always say now that we have an orchestra that Lucy Simon obviously thought that Dickon was the coolest character, all his songs without the words could like an acid trip montage background music. That or porno music. He is the only one with drums! Anyway, I still think Martha is the coolest thing ever and I love Hold On.
This is a very difficult piece to play- I'm currently working with full cast and orchestra to perform this musical, This is one of the difficult parts. For this one I play Bass Guitar part which is rhythmicly difficult. I play piano through out the rest of the musical.. The more piece in thsi musical is the piece "Wick" Which is very techniqual, and difficult to perform well.
This is the freakin World AIDS day benefit and Michael Arden joyfully performed this number with his own interpretation and solid vocals. What's all the anger about?
When YouTube videos of the production that you musical direct show up online someday, I guarantee you there'll be a crowd of people posting about how horrible the interpretation was and how weak and amateur the vocals were. The professional theatre community is a LOT more POSITIVE than what goes on here.
You're a music director.. really? lets have a listen to your rendition of "Sweet Child O' Mine" and then see whose deaf. Don't act all high and mighty when you CLEARLY have no room to talk. Michael Arden is amazing. It's music directors like you that make public schools reconsider their music programs.
If anybody saw the Pippin concert the year before (or after?) - Michael was amazing in that too, and the rendition of "Morning Glow" was drop-dead fantastic. Wish there were a clip here!
I can't wait till my school starts rehersals for this show...I love this song and the show and I can't wait to start the show...it should be a lot of fun!
Excuse me, this is pretty much exactly the way that it was performed with the Broadway cast. And for goodness sake, this was a benefit concert. They didn't need to memorize it, you can see them in other clips with the scripts. Considering all that, I think he does a spectacular job.

Umm, no. Don't try to POWN me. I know what I'm talking about.
I've listened to the Original Cast Recording over and over again... I've got the score. I'm a music director who intends to do the show some day. I need to know these things.
Umm, first of all, it's "pwn". If you're going to try to use slang to diss me, at least do it right. And I own the origional cast recording, I listen to it every morning when I'm making breakfast. Not only that, I've ushered for this show, as well as been in two different versions. My father played Ben. This has always been the way it's been performed.
I don't give a damn if you're a music director or a janitor, you're wrong.
This is absolutely fantasatic, I love this show! I desperatly want to be in it someday. Sadly I'm too old and too chubby to play Mary, I don't have the higher notes for Lilly... I could play Martha, perhaps.
My dad was in this show, playing one of the ghosts and the man who took Mary's luggage for her at the train station.
I love this show, I love this song, I love that man, just love altogether.
he has hit the character of dickon perfectly on the head with his performance, and also wick. although i think the performance was pulled down slightly with mary. still, he made it a brilliant performance. best dickon ever!
I was at this benefit. I sat fourth row dead center...just in front of Idina and Taye. It was AMAZING. Will Chase and Stephen Pasquale sang "Lily's Eyes" and brought down the house. Laura Benanti, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Michael Arden, Sara Gettlefinger, Max Von Essen...It was AMAZING.
Awesome version of such an awesome song! He has a couple weak points, but I imagine he could easily smooth those out if he were ever to appear in an actual production...
Oh my goodness, thank you so much. My school just finished doing this show, this is one of my favorite songs, and I adore Michael Arden. Michael as Dickon is pretty much just love. Thank you!
i prefer the vocals over the original cast recording, but i do agree with you that his choices as an actor weren't the wisest...

I am quite fond of his Dickon! Dickon and Martha are my favourites in this show and his voice is perfection.
