@54321Judith - Objet technology is used in medical surgery planning - and yes, you can produce a skeleton within a body - check out our 3D printed toddler on the Objet blog.
Wow! Can you reproduce a copy of a human in resin for the skeleton? Soft rubber for muscle and soft resin for skin? Robot android type reproductions of people?
@xheartshapebox You think this is going to be free? Why? Who's is going to give the raw materials away for free? Who will design things for no compensation?
@kantana1022 it can print anything, even non-flat bottomed objects. view the video till the end and you will see that it also 'prints' support material around objects that are not well connected to the whole structure.
The Objet 3D printer can replicate moving parts and products - such as bicycle chains and inter-meshing gear wheels all in a single print run. So no assembly whatsoever! But no, sorry, no computer processors yet! The machine jets resin photopolymers that are hardened by UV light. The machine translates any CAD software file into STL format which is then automatically printed in individual layers. Prices start at $19,900. Run time for all 6 wrenches at the same time was about 25 hours.
@FpsLimitless no, because it can't print using those kind of material, and not nearly replicate something so complicated. Maybe sometime in the future, but not at the moment im afraid.
What is the software used in the process? Can any design guy in a shop learn this software in a week? What is the cost of the equipment? Cost per parts..each wrench costs about what? run time per wrench?
By using a scan you're actually cutting out much of the unique benefits of 3D printing - the ability to effectively produce blind holes and internal supports in a single piece - something that would be very difficult for subtractive forms of manufacturing/prototyping to do..
@cirusMEDIA A scan can't penetrate every material and therefore not see it's internal workings. So, I'd imagine that additional 3D modeling would be required via the computer software.

When the day comes that we are able to print anything, surely it will be devastating and detrimental to most aspects of human life?
People would stop working, because you would not need money for possessions etc
Everyone could have everything no?

I got a question:
"Can a complex object with moving parts be printed from a scan only?
..or is additional 3D modeling required via the computer???"
