This man is nothing but an entrepreneur. There is good money to be had in setting yourself up as a "spiritual teacher".

All you need is a certain charisma, and you really do have to have that, and to know how to put the whole thing together. It's about learning all the right things to say do in the same way that any entrepreneur has to do in order to succeed in his particular pursuit.

I have no doubt in an "ultimate reality" as you put it and there have been a rare few in many different traditions who have been true teachers

These clowns with their soft fluffy voices and their well practiced smiley faces are a bunch of fakes. It's spiritual quackery at it's best. Of course there's very good money in it as long as there is an endless supply of stupid gullible people

@sweeetly The modern versions of martial arts are not a spiritual path, it's no different to a yoga class or even the gym, I have no problem with people charging for that.

The spiritual should not be charged for, at best done purely on a donation basis. The moment money becomes a factor countless people are instantly excluded and the purity of intent has long gone. These days it would seem it's a license to print money for many of these ones and considered acceptable unfortunately.

I practice internal martial arts. Absolutely spiritual in nature. Not just for health and fitness.

I agree it would be great to have all for free but even gurus eat, have family to care for.

I get what you mean but in this case I find Mooji is the genuine article.

In reality most of the money pays for the hall etc..no profits, no glamour, as with my Martial arts teacher

Better to discern each one rather than label off the cuff.

@cspace1234nz I fully understand your concerns. However, the only reason money may cause such problems it's because of the meanings and expectations we attach to it. Money is just money, is just part of human creativity. You can have billions in your bank account and still be as void as the Tao. (not common though).

Humility and simplicity are also concepts, and so they are also impermanent. And we can easily be attached to these concepts as if they were real.

There are always people who comment on spiritual teachers and say that their soft voice is an act, that because they make a living as a teacher or author, they are clearly a fraud, and that everyone who listens to them is a blind fool. It's a show of immense cynicism and ignorance about the reality of spiritual awakening, not to mention faulty logic.

The fact that people give a thumbs-down hardly proves that you're right. That's a classic stance too among cynics. Strange.

And the fact that people with mental problems make spiritual claims doesn't invalidate genuine spiritual awakening. Psychologists actually distinguish between psychosis and true spiritual experiences. I am one myself.

i agree... some of the most self-realizinf moments of my life, have been when i have gone through catharsis, which is living whatever is going on to the fullest... it's dropping all the way down to the bottom of the swimming pool in order to touch the floor and from there, take impulse to swim back to the surface...
