Why? The iPad is something new and innovative inherently. Why would I want a $500 laptop I will throw away after 1 year. Sprints 4G USB mobile broadband is also $60/month with a 2 year contract. No thank you.

For every piece of software you could buy, you could find an alternative for free. I could see myself having a netbook with OOo, Visual Basic Essentials, etc in my car. With a real keyboard! If your arguing for cheap, stripped gown software for "on the go" than a netbook with a bunch of free software could easily compete. The iPad is fail.

just because it is a free version doesn't mean it is as good.... a good example is photoshop and gimp... i use gimp and it sucks compared to photoshop

*sigh* In the context of this video, I meant that if you want the iPad for cheap, free apps, for "on the go" work, than a netbook could easily fill that gap. Or a thin-and-light laptop. or any laptop! What, your going to put a ten inch screen in your pocket? OOo, VBE, GIMP, etc are all good enough for "on the go" work. Does the iPad have Photoshop? Or a Photoshop alternative? NO! (correct me if I'm wrong) Your entire point is moot. Thank you for wasting 1kb of Google's servers.

lol well i wasnt going to make these vids and instead just a short summary but man there was soooo many ppl bashing the ipad without hearing some points, so i thought...let me just put some points in the air, both pros and cons, just to ADD A DIFFERENT VIEW ON THINGS. im not justifying the ipad to be a fantastic device, but just adding another view on things, and your completely entitled to have your view ! the ipad is not perfect, and i may be getting slightly ripped of with this first gen lol

I think that $10 is just the price for iWork applications. The more free apps there are the more popular the iPad will be. More and more people will want better quality mobile apps and the iPad serves that purpose.

I agree completely with your comments on the app pricing. I'll probably buy the iWork suite because it's a full-featured office suite at just $30, but I hope Apple hasn't put that price in developer's heads by default. It's possible that if the apps are good enough (time will tell) that $10 will be a nice spot but I can't imagine paying $10 for some of the cheap/free apps I have on my iPhone. In the end the market will drive app pricing, if no one buys apps at $10 devs will drop prices.

atm there are iphone apps that are $9.99 that are £5.99 on the UK app store they can't just change the exchange rate.

So its £18 for all of iwork and plus you're not forced to buy all 3 if you don't want to.

i never do a straight conversion, it never works out, apple just take the same price and bring ti the uk lol so 9.99 dollars, same in pounds, apple are never that nice to us in the uk

Yea but the exchange rate is already established for the app store, Apple can't just change it to suit their own needs, there is no cost for transport or external publishers to deal with.

I'd except £6.50 as thats close to the exchange rate atm, pretty sure charging vastly different prices for purely digital content is not only morally/ethically wrong but borders on illegal.

sorry i dont care much for web apps at all AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, internet connections are too slow, and internet connections are not reliable enough yet, and desktop software or even the mobile iwork is SO MUCH RICHER than google docs, ive used it before and dont like it...you get what you pay for

drbuk, i called in on skype and talked to you after the keynote on your ustream. lets just say i wasnt that impressed with the IPAD when it was announced. but weeks later i have come to realize that its not going to be focus on the hardware, its the software that will really make the ipad what it is going to be. and what will it be? thats up to the software. its going to be a constantly evolving device.

im excited to see what kind of programs they can make for it.

lmfao. I don't really like the iPad that much... I just bought a used MacBook Air on eBay. That's my personal opinion though, I want a full computer thats light. Doesn't have to be a power horse, but it at least has to have the complete experience. Linux/Mac OS X/Windows, either one of those would be fine.

iWork is The most important app that saved iPad, without which it wouldn't be able to replace a lot people's commute laptop.I think iPad apps will be just as cheap than iPhone's cuz developing enhanced version of existing apps taking advantage of the bigger screen is far less costly than building a brand new app right from the ground. iWork can be expensive only cuz its just too vital. Same for the accessaries, Apple just robbing as much as they can with the 1st gen.

Yes i agree with what you say and no mater what iphone app's it can use, people who are serious about this product will want something more distinguishable than a large iphone; to make use of the fact that it as a larger high quality screen. The first gen ipad will be something like a loss leader to the second gen. Any way as i expect it will implement more features as with many products. The price is very good all the same

What I am unsure about is:

How/where are these files saved?

Let's say you wanted to write and upload a CV - can you locate the file to upload to jobsearch websites.

Further, I don't know whether most will accept a .pages file. Can we choose the filetype?

that a really good point i'm thinking about as well all the time. how does data transfer and management works on the ipad and shouldn't it be updated on the ipod touch and iphone in the future?

it really sucks to store or synchronise data within an app without being able to use the data with other apps on the iphone or ipod touch.

and there is no handy opportunity to copy data to a regular pc or mac without an application to sync that stuff. are there rumours about future changes?

The iWork aspect is were I think the iPad will shine. I don't see this device being a great web experience without flash or HTML5.

Applications in the iPad have to be more richer and powerful than iphone apps. I would love to seee Reason 4 on the ipad, it will look awesome. nice vids by the way

if theres an app on the app store right now, and then you run it on the ipad, the screen will just blow up to be bigger. that means that those pixels will just be bigger so the apps look even worse on this ipad. i wonder how bad the apps are going to look on the ipad, because blowing up a 3.5 inch app to 9.7 inches might make it look really low res.
