I possesed the entire video of the tube performance.. It`s absolutly brilliant. Marc wreckes a mic in the end after he got pissed off with a previous mic not working.
El Martin de Soft Cell y el Martín de Sábato en "sobre Héroes y tumbas" no son disímiles. Una vez, yo también amé a una Alejandra; una vez fui Martin y muchas, pero muchas veces, quise ser Marc Almond.
i bought the album Art of Falling Apart in 83,,,,,,this album was the Soft Cell for me,plus This Last Night in Sodom album,,,,both on par with the early Soft Cells..The Girl with the Leather Patent Face....I hated Tainted Love due to it being overplayed ...i felt like the masses were robbing my group...lol...i wore all black, dyed black crimped hair, black eyeliner....i loved being young in the early 80s and getting stared at!!lol,,,,being gay and alternative was great.
I am 11 and I love Soft Cell.I really wish the youth of today would also listen to some more 80s classics! This song,as well as Sex Dwarf, is so dark and it just would be a great halloween song.My birthday is the day before haloween,so i will definately be blaring these songs! ;)
WONDERFUL track...I NEVER knew there was even a video for Martin...But, whats up w/ the bored and jaded looking crowd?? Its Marc Freaking Almond...dayum!?!?!?!?
This song is way too dark for when it was released. It is brilliant, and I have to wonder if it would have been better received had it not been the mid 80's
@natesot,that's probably right.I have no idea who or what it's about, clearly some horror story. I still have this on vinyl. I can't believe that was recorded live.He is such a good singer. Please does anyone know?
Yea, i think the film came out in the 70s, it was called Martin, about a boy who had bad dreems thought about murder in a small town was isolated and alone then learned he was a vampire he used a razor to cut the people because he didnt have vampire teath. Was kinda a modern vampire story with more about the obsesion and sickness of not haveing blood. Its a great take on vampires, especially now with all these dumb movies and books out. The tween ones.
Quite simply the best thing SC ever wrote ...EVER. Was always the record played at parties back during my earlie 80's youth that got everyone up dancing. This shortened version doesn't even begin to do it justice. If anyone hasn't heard the full version in all it's majestic glory then I recommend you purchase "Art of Falling Apart" CD for it's inclusion among the bonus tracks. A masterpiece!
TheAlienFan - It most certainly does include the Hendrix Medley. All glorious 10mins of it. You'll also find the extended version of "It's A Mugs Game" which runs it a close 2nd. Get it now :-)
My favourite Soft Cell song (b-side is "It's a mug's gams", also worth a listen). Does anyone know where the original (butchers ...!) Sex Dwarf video can still be seen? I really really would like to!
Truly brilliant. I loved Non Stop Erotic Cabaret but the Art of Dalling Apart topped in with gems like this. Pity it didn't get the commercial success it deserved. The critics loved it.
Soft Cell produced and wrotesome of the best hits of the early eighties. Their performances always talked about and seeing this video is testament to that.
Its no wonder s.s's music can get so many possitive comments.
Wow! A live performance of my favorite Soft Cell song. This is such a great example of Goth/New Wave crossover. I spin this track all the time in my DJ sets. Usually right after Sneakyville by Secession.
The lyrics to this song are brilliant and Marc is such an amazing showman who brings great passion and feeling to everything he sings (even though he can't sing in tune).
Wow, what a tune! You'll never hear a tune as cool as this on the tediously, mudane, boring, same old same old, repetative, Simon Cowell owned comercial radio!!!! Thanks for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for putting this up. One of Marc's less well known tunes. The time it was released I seem to recall a moral panic in the UK about what were called video nasties, leading to several films being banned outright...
Really interesting song-probably be rediscovered and become a hit in 2130 or thereabouts! Interesting and quite intrigueing tune, melody, structure.looks like it was a VERY good gig.
Hmm, the reply function doesn't seem to be working so all my comments have come out in a list :( Bet this one will work coz i'm replying to myself, sods law???????
I spin this track all the time in my DJ sets. It's even on a recent mix I made for people to download for free called "Unveiling the Secret - The Dark Side of New Wave".
how can those stupid people just be standing there? i saw soft cell's last show at the hollywood palladium in 1983 and the crowd was nuts.. running up on stage and kissing marc.. it was a fantastic 2 hr performance that i will never forget.
