A few days after thr opening in Buffalo, Bruce came to the Spectrum in Philadelphia. It was the 2nd of many shows for me at the Spectrum. DJ Ed Sciacky had already played the whole Darkness Album front to back on WMMR, and of couse we all taped it on high tech cassette tape machines The album was not yet released. In less than a week I think I new every word to every song on he Album. So cool to see and hear the full band vesion, I had only seen the solo piano version back in the day.
i was a volunteer usher at shea's, just to hear the music in that most awesome venue - i had never heard of Bruce Springsteen at the time, but a friend told me about him as we heard he was coming - wow! this concert blew me away - my first ever listen to his music! thanks for this!
Thanks for posting. First time I've heard the one and only full band version from '78. Great performance. I much prefer the "My daddy taught me how to walk quiet lyrics...." in this version than in the studio version. Great stuff. Thanks again...

If that was at the Paramount, now the Schnitzer Music Hall in 1978, it was my chair he stood on while singing Spirits in the Night and at one point he fell back and I steadied him. He said, "It's dark out here!"
Saw this Concert in Portland Oregon with my friend Barbara Tucker. Bruce came out into the audience while he played, it was fantastic! ...Oh Barb what eva became of ya girl?
This was a great concert, I lived in Rochester at the time, just 50 miles away, and I had bought tickets. But I had to miss it because of a family emergency. From my days in NY when he was just one of many good bands from NJ to the present, he has always been my favorite performer. I'm wondering, has anyone ever said that they attended a bad show by Bruce? Probably not.
@Bullettube That IS sort of the amazing thing. I mean, what if he doesn't feel well one night, or sort of feels like taking the night off, or doesn't like playing "Born to Run" for the 875th time? He seems to make it new every single night, which is something of a miracle in itself.
Dear Lord. Thank you for Bruce and the E Street Band. Amen.
