This is pretty smart and no wonder their storage system is awesome! I highly recommend using Backblaze as it's saved all my data without any issues and it's great to see it restore quickly too.
Google did a study and found that hot hard drives and cold hard drives fail at about the same rate. Also these drives are for backup 90 % of the time they are just going to sit there and not spin up.
Good point, a study did show however that in a server rack of these the ones near the middle were 1 degree Celsius hotter (most of that heat was probably PSU/CPU).
From the build's i've seen on youtube and the web, I haven't seed much in the way of cable management inside the system box
