The manual states to use bike mode for batteries less than 14A, otherwise you may overcharge it with 3.6A current.
I use OptiMate 4 as it does everything automatically, i don't have to press any buttons and it will charge and maintain my battery perfectly. BTW, my bike battery is now 7 years old!!
I own a CTEK 3300 and use it with my 1982 Suzuki GS 1100E battery. Works great! You should use the Motorcycle setting, it takes about 8 to 12 hours with a flat battery, but wont fry the plates.

If you are showing how this charger reacts when charging a BMW motorcycle, you should be using the snowflake setting, not the car mode.
