I'm confused on the difference of Soviet Montage vs. a Montage sequence. A Montage Sequence is supposed to summarize a topic and passes time, but a soviet montage is what? How do you explain it??
yo dude. what did you get for this, this is awsome and perfectly displays Soviet montage dawg. This is too nice. what programme did you use for this dude? too freakin' awsome. I looked at it so to study for my television exam. it was all I needed.
haha its only called "Soviet Montage" because it was for a film studies class and the task was to make soviet montage based on what we'd learned. I got a good mark, probobly just because it looked good, not because it was specifically soviet montage :P. As for the theme of Water from Pudovkins "Mother" I have no idea what that is.
Fantastic! I love it. May I ask what type of camera you used to shoot it? It looks very cinematic and the aspect ratio looks like 2.35:1 as opposed to regular 16:9 so... I'm just curious, since I'm aiming for the same type of look in my own film. Great work!
Its was shot on a mini dv DVX100b. and originally shot 4:3. We put electrical tape over the LCD so we would frame things properly, then went into post and added the letterbox.
That was really good. Stuff like this happens. But you know what they say, "People don't kill people. Tennis rackets kill people." Sorry, lame. Excellent work, again.
A well done short film, but isn't Soviet montage all about the juxtaposition of images to create meaning? You create ideas through juxtaposition, but no single image contains the idea on its own. This film is pretty straightforward... the idea (a statement on violence and rage) is presented pretty explicitly. I don't know if it qualifies as a Soviet Montage. It's good though!
I agree, the editing and cinematography is beautiful, but I don't quite understand where the Soviet Montage is. The shots and editing relate to 1920s Soviet cinema, but there is no juxtaposition of images as Eisenstein used, and therefore no 'Soviet Montage'. Amazing piece otherwise though :D x
yeah this looks more like it's someone trying to make something which looks like soviet montage without having actually engaged with any of eisenstien's theories

im working on an essay about Soviet montage so thats how i stumbled upon this

Excellent piece of work (but it's not Soviet montage in my book).

I agree. Nicely done, but not even remotely Soviet-style montage.
