WRX never had a decent transmission. Its been weak ever since they brought them into the US in 2002. STi tranny has been bulletproof as soon as they decided to drop the 6spd in there.
Lol @ all the Tranny problems. My Srt-4 has 103k miles stage 2 and not one tranny issue. All my gears flow effortless. As far as interior, it has viper inspired seats, a boost gauge (Sti,Evo,MS3/6 do not) and on. For you to compare the SRT-4 to the Later year Cobalt is dumb. They didn't even get in the same realm of power til recently. Yes the Srt-4 was put in the class to compete with the Corolla xrs, Civic Si, And MSP/3. But it was so efficient it was compared the AWD beasts. FWD was dominated
When people say that Dodge has transmission problems, they're usually talking about the automatics, which Dodge can't build to save their asses. The manual transmissions that Dodge employs are actually very good & it takes a lot to kill an SRT-4 transmission. However, Subaru transmissions aren't slouches either. They actually have the opposite issue with the autos being more durable than the manuals (although the JDM 5spd STi transmissions are damn near bulletproof themselves.)

the biggest mistake dodge made was deciding to make the srt-4 a FWD car, they were considering making it a AWD but they wanted to keep cost down, i'd still like to have one though
@Zephaniah6101 by keeping it fwd they saved weight. In a drag race awd is only good for the launch but after that it does nothing just an extra 500-800 pounds. And with the power of the srt its good they kept it fwd cause it would have been a lot slower and cost more and no one would have bought it. it would have just been an awd fail of a car.

Well the SRT isn't so bad if your looking to just coast up around your highschool student parking lot with the loudest muffler but other then that theres better things to spend your money on kids. Long story short, spend 20,000 bucks on a used Subaru WRX instead of modding a 3,000 junkyard bound in 2 years car.
The issue with SRT-4's isnt that the car itself is shitty, its the drivers. none of them can drive worth shit. I took an srt-4 with racing slicks 2 years ago, i ran a 16.4 in my ol' infiniti G20, pissin coolant, and yes, i won. lol
The Stage 2 setup for SRT-4s is crap. When my buddy still had his stage 2 setup, My Stock w/ bolt ons stage 0 pcm would catch him through top end because the stage 2 pcm loses to much timing. If you are stock turbo you run should be running Stage 1 pcm so that way you keep your timing.
Go onto SRT forums, there's tons of them on there complaining about it. Every manufacturer does the same thing. The third gear in my '04 Cobra is the same way. They just use cheap ass parts.
I love SRT-4s, but they do have issues. Nothings perfect.
ill will admit the 6-speed on the sti is sturdy, but how about the rest of the subaru's who are blowing up there 5-speeds and swaping in 6-speeds because they are garbage, and fyi the srt4 comes with a superior mercedes transmission being that it is a product of daimler mercedes
@cbgdaman13 STis don't come with 5-speeds. Those are the base WRXs, which have glass transmissions. However, even so you're comparing an AWD trans to a FWD trans. The STi is already at an disadvantage.....but yet still better. Go to the SRT-4 forums and talk to those guys. "Superior" is not a word they use for them, more like "FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT BROKE" is what I see in headlines a lot.

@cbgdaman13 If you know how to drive these cars the trannys should be fine. I have had my WRX for 4 years now and it is stage 2 with a VF34 on it. I have had no tranny issues replaced the clutch though didn't like stock. If you drop an AWD tranny enough times even the Sti's it is going to break. Young kids are morons and just dump it all the time they deserve it. I am getting an 07 Sti in two weeks can't wait.
@volk97 LOL! First of all the car companies don't build the transmissions, they simply order them from a manufacturer with certain specs. In the SRT-4s case, Dodge goes cheap with their internal part selection on their trans.

And as for competition, there is the MazdaSpeed3, and the Cobalt SS. Both are actually better designed cars overall, not even going to get into that one.
SRT-4s are nice, but they are almost in the same class as Civics. Shitty interiors, shitty transmissions, etc. Fast cars, but they aren't built very well at all. My buddies MS3 puts out just over 400whp and is a gorgeous car, great to drive and ride in everyday.

The STi has a completely different transmission than the base Impreza. In the 08+ models it's practically bulletproof. The SRT-4 could be the same story, I'm not sure. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

even though the srt-4 is domestic, the majority of its parts are manufactured in mexico. the rest are canadian. i was a tech at chrysler for 5 years from 2000 to 2005. every chrysler product is made to last until the warranty expires, usually 30k if during testing it lasts longer they cheapen it, if it fails they strengthen it. i aimed to buy a new srt, 20k new wasn't bad but i bought an 05 sti instead, and i don't regret it, way better quality vehicle
It really depends on how you race. Obviously an STI is gonna win at cornering and launch because it's AWD, but from a roll, the SRT can easily beat an STI (if they drive better than this guy who obviously missed 3rd gear). Not even a mustang GT can beat the SRT from a roll. Stage kits are decent but don't shine until you get a bigger turbo, SRTs are turbo monsters.

Lol... Well as of 2 days ago i got an AP1 2001 Honda S2000 with 1500 miles.. so the SRT4 is for sale, but no It's not completely stock. I have hardpiping, and bolt ons pretty much. Regardless stock SRT4 will pull on STI and Evo FROM A ROLL, NOT A DIG. It's evident in the trap speeds, that the SRT4 isn't far behind, it's problem is the initial traction, trust me i own one.
A stock SRT and STI are pretty much even i've seen them race more than once. I'm not saying from a roll the STI is better it's not but they are equals STI is AWD and gets a better whole shot. Nice on the S2000 beautiful car man. I have a WRX with 12k in mods paid 16 when i got it.

Nice man. I had trouble finding rexes for a good price but to find an 2001 Honda s2000 with 1500 miles was AMAZING and i prefer this car even over the STI and Evo. Sure it's slower and has no AWD but i can't explain why it's such a true sports car. When you get into it... everything just feels like a race car. From the push start, to the 9.5k redline, to the superb handling.

WRX never had a decent transmission. Its been weak ever since they brought them into the US in 2002. STi tranny has been bulletproof as soon as they decided to drop the 6spd in there.

Lol @ all the Tranny problems. My Srt-4 has 103k miles stage 2 and not one tranny issue. All my gears flow effortless. As far as interior, it has viper inspired seats, a boost gauge (Sti,Evo,MS3/6 do not) and on. For you to compare the SRT-4 to the Later year Cobalt is dumb. They didn't even get in the same realm of power til recently. Yes the Srt-4 was put in the class to compete with the Corolla xrs, Civic Si, And MSP/3. But it was so efficient it was compared the AWD beasts. FWD was dominated

When people say that Dodge has transmission problems, they're usually talking about the automatics, which Dodge can't build to save their asses. The manual transmissions that Dodge employs are actually very good & it takes a lot to kill an SRT-4 transmission. However, Subaru transmissions aren't slouches either. They actually have the opposite issue with the autos being more durable than the manuals (although the JDM 5spd STi transmissions are damn near bulletproof themselves.)

@blahkanig well my 05 came with one. And 05 is really the only year i care about. and 280 hp doesnt make neons cool fyi. stage 2 neons are a dime a dozen. all the same. wheel spin happy at launch, and then its fast from 40 to 130, cool. public roads shouldnt see those speeds anyway.

@TheVertro No not stock as I stated. Mine is equipped with bolt ons and stock motor and trans. btw finding a stage 2 srt 4 is alot harder than you think. Atleast not abused. Stage 2 makes alot more than 280whp my friend. You need to search. But I will agree with you on one thing. 05 was the best year, body wise. Good buy, I would buy one for track use, DD Repairs...forget about it.

And with the power of the srt its good they kept it fwd cause it would have been a lot slower and cost more and no one would have bought it. it would have just been an awd fail of a car.

The Stage 2 setup for SRT-4s is crap. When my buddy still had his stage 2 setup, My Stock w/ bolt ons stage 0 pcm would catch him through top end because the stage 2 pcm loses to much timing. If you are stock turbo you run should be running Stage 1 pcm so that way you keep your timing.

@cbgdaman13 STis don't come with 5-speeds. Those are the base WRXs, which have glass transmissions. However, even so you're comparing an AWD trans to a FWD trans. The STi is already at an disadvantage.....but yet still better. Go to the SRT-4 forums and talk to those guys. "Superior" is not a word they use for them, more like "FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT BROKE" is what I see in headlines a lot.
Like I said I love SRT4s, but not in the same class as an STi. Still a dodge and still has tranny problems.

@cbgdaman13 If you know how to drive these cars the trannys should be fine. I have had my WRX for 4 years now and it is stage 2 with a VF34 on it. I have had no tranny issues replaced the clutch though didn't like stock. If you drop an AWD tranny enough times even the Sti's it is going to break. Young kids are morons and just dump it all the time they deserve it. I am getting an 07 Sti in two weeks can't wait.

@volk97 LOL! First of all the car companies don't build the transmissions, they simply order them from a manufacturer with certain specs. In the SRT-4s case, Dodge goes cheap with their internal part selection on their trans.
Secondly, too bad that getrag (the company that makes every trans for BMW, etc.) is actually partially owned by Ford.

And as for competition, there is the MazdaSpeed3, and the Cobalt SS. Both are actually better designed cars overall, not even going to get into that one.
SRT-4s are nice, but they are almost in the same class as Civics. Shitty interiors, shitty transmissions, etc. Fast cars, but they aren't built very well at all. My buddies MS3 puts out just over 400whp and is a gorgeous car, great to drive and ride in everyday.

MazdaSpeed3 are decent cars. Cobalts, yeah i would never compare them to Srt-4's. Srt-4's lack in interior but make up in power for their engine. How can you class Srt-4's with Civics? Civics are junk and are torque less. You have to do major modifying for them to be decently fast. Again, i wasn't saying Srt's are Ferrari, just for their price, their good little cars.

There's a good reason for it too, it's a neon, and it's a Chrysler product. even though the srt-4 is domestic, the majority of its parts are manufactured in mexico. the rest are canadian. i was a tech at chrysler for 5 years from 2000 to 2005. every chrysler product is made to last until the warranty expires, usually 30k if during testing it lasts longer they cheapen it, if it fails they strengthen it. i aimed to buy a new srt, 20k new wasn't bad but i bought an 05 sti instead, and i don't regret it, way better quality vehicle

It really depends on how you race. Obviously an STI is gonna win at cornering and launch because it's AWD, but from a roll, the SRT can easily beat an STI (if they drive better than this guy who obviously missed 3rd gear). Not even a mustang GT can beat the SRT from a roll. Stage kits are decent but don't shine until you get a bigger turbo, SRTs are turbo monsters.

Where are you located, hopefully It's close because you've been racing too many Neon SXT's and no SRT4's apparently if you have so little respect from them, especially from a roll where the AWD set up you have loses 20 percent power to the wheels. Lol... Well as of 2 days ago i got an AP1 2001 Honda S2000 with 1500 miles.. so the SRT4 is for sale, but no It's not completely stock. I have hardpiping, and bolt ons pretty much. Regardless stock SRT4 will pull on STI and Evo FROM A ROLL, NOT A DIG. It's evident in the trap speeds, that the SRT4 isn't far behind, it's problem is the initial traction, trust me i own one.

A stock SRT and STI are pretty much even i've seen them race more than once. I'm not saying from a roll the STI is better it's not but they are equals STI is AWD and gets a better whole shot. Nice on the S2000 beautiful car man. I have a WRX with 12k in mods paid 16 when i got it.

A STI might get a srt-4 on the track with its 13.2@103 MPH but no way in hell will it "DESTROY" a HR 350z that runs 13.1-13.3@107-109 MPH get your facts straight bro, quarter mile would be even after that it would be the Z walking with the bigger trap speeds and from roll it would be total Z domination, this is obviously speaking STOCK vs STOCK, I owned an EVo 8 and i am completely aware that a modded EVO or STI would rape the hell out of a Z without forced induction. I didn't say it would destroy your Z i love the 350z my friend has one. Around a track its proven they run faster times. And the Evo didn't beat the STI by that much. If you remember the EVO they tested wasn't the American version so it had way more power than the STI. I destroy STI's and EVO's in my WRX best i've ran was a 11.9 at 117 trap.

Nice man. I had trouble finding rexes for a good price but to find an 2001 Honda s2000 with 1500 miles was AMAZING and i prefer this car even over the STI and Evo. Sure it's slower and has no AWD but i can't explain why it's such a true sports car. When you get into it... everything just feels like a race car. From the push start, to the 9.5k redline, to the superb handling.

I guess i didn't let it warm up enough.. so it shut my fuel off at 5k rpm's instead of 9.5k.. once it warmed up in a minute or so after, it stopped doing that. Lots of security features built into the S2K.
