I remember when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. They put me on this large oxygen machine for about a month and in the end it did more harm than good. I'm a fairly light sleeper. While I love a soft humming noise in the background like the heating system in the winter, I couldn't stand the lights nor the oxygen cord. Plus...as it turned out, my lack of oxygen came from the dry air in Colorado so during the winter, Vics vapor rub and sometimes vapor machine to keep my sinuses clear and moist.
i wake up not breathing every couple minutes every night but i dont snore at all is that still sleep apnea.. every thing i see about it says snoring... mine is when im trying to fall asleep i get a huge rish over by body similar to one of those falling from the sky dreams where it feels like you just feel on to your bed but then im breathing heavily and sometimes my heart races but once i fall asleep it doesnt happen in the middle of the night it just prolongs me for initially falling asleep
Diet plays a huge part in this. Not only will being overweight contribute to sleep apnea, but so will mucous-causing food such as dairy, gluten and sugar, as swelling occurs in the body from these kinds of foods.
@JLife15 Just a chin? Well that's gotta be better than some big machine. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to get it straight if i have this or not. (i hope i have, cause then i will get an explanation why i am always tired.
@IdentityHero Unfortunately you are overweight. If 1 pound equals 0,45 Kg and 1 foot equals 0,3 meters then as I see at the metric calculator you are 1,68 meters and 102,1 Kgs :-( I'm 1,73 meters and 85 Kgs. When I reach the 90 Kgs I start to snore badly. My close friend, weights 140 Kgs and he has heavy sleep apnea.
This review is for the Nasivent Tube - Anti Snoring, Snore and Anti Sleep Apnea Aid (Health and Beauty)
I recently purchased the Nasivent Tube for my husband who has a long history of snoring. This product has reduced the noise level so tha once again we can sleep in the same room. Thank you so much for your wonderful product... amazon.com, just look for Nasivent Tube! good luck. and have also a better sleep.
I hate to ask this here, but maybe someone can tell me if I have sleep apnea. But sometimes when I sleep, I'm JOLTED (and I mean, "hit by lightning" kind of jolted) awake. It always scares the shit out of me. Is that from me not breathing? Advice is appreciated!!
@WHITTIERMANDO Whattt?? You too? At least I'm not the only one. Is it kinda like you're just dozing off and you kinda can feel "something" isn't right and about the time you feel like you're drifting off, you get slammed with electricity or something? I can't explain it but it scares the hell out of me!
UPDATE: Since getting my CPAP about 1 1/2 weeks ago, I've been sleeping blissfully except for the occasional discomfort of the nose mask. I did take a nap yesterday for about 2-3 hours in the afternoon without the CPAP and must admit it was a horrible experience. Without the CPAP, I immediately found myself choking from the apnea again and can't imagine going back to not using a CPAP. The only major negative of the CPAP was the cost... about $1200 for study and CPAP together.
One time, I had several nightmares within nightmares. I was being "attacked" by a nightmare (a demon sitting on your chest). It was the scariest crap in the world. I could see the room and everything around, but couldn't get up and felt paralyzed. I would try to stay calm and try to wake up, but would wake up only to find I'm still in the dream. I'd get attacked again moments later, and eventually did wake up. I found my stupid room mates had stuffed a wet sock down my mouth.
@Marchanoose I feel the same way what you just wrote about apnea, It happened once, i woke up, slept again, (thinking that it won't happen again) then I was catching my breath again, so I did stand up and walk around, afraid to sleep back again.
omfg! i have sleep apnea too! but it rarely occurs and only happens when i wake up... are there different types of sleep apnea? is there treatment for my type other than the CPAP? please help me
fuck a cpap machine! junk! use 5 pillows and you'll be fine. get one of those corderou t.v. chairs with arms built in as a wedge. also put a 2x4 piece of wood under the bed legs near your head.
I have it too , I was told two years ago now, I could not sleep with CPAP, I went to sleep lab twice, tried different masks , but couldn't breath through any , the doctor said that a muscle relaxes in the back of my throught , and blocks my breathing , I snoar a lot very loud , my wife wakes me up to turn on my side to breath easier, and to lower the snoaring sound , I feel very bad for her, I wake up with headaches , feel sleepy and very tired , it relly made my life miserable .
its wierd , i don 't have this, but last night each time i treid to go to sleep but my mind kept on hinking about my breath so i couldn't do it atoamaticly , can somone help?
don't worry its ok now , for anyone else this happens too , listen to music whilst sleeping for as long as it takes for you not to think about breathing
I have severe sleep apnea. I was a zombie getting no sleep at night for over 1 year. It even affected my heart. I now use CPAP. Works 100%. I sleep soundly all night. I use the nasal pillow type. I am a human being again, rested, happy and healthy.
i have just been diagnosed with sleep apnea, after suffering a few seizures in my sleep it has triggered a form of nocturnal epilepsy, im on meds (to control the seizures)and so far so good, ive lost a few kgs(although im not hugely overweight) but still am not sleeping the best so hopefully it begins to get better
I stop breathing in my sleep too no matter how I sleep. I would wake up too sleepy to go to work most of the time. I fell asleep standing up at work often and fell asleep behind the wheel too. The thing is that I don't have health care or the cash to go to sleep study. One day I fell asleep on the couch sitting up right. The best sleep I had in years. I woke up feeling like a teen again so I sleep like this often and still have to same effects. Sleeping up right unblocks my airways.
I'm wondering if it would be bad if I took a sleeping pill to help me sleep during the night. I just recently found out that I had this because of my g/f telling me that I stop berating for long periods, and I snore really bad. I'll usually wake up many times during the night and I'm totally exhausted right now. I wont take a sleeping pill till I ask the doctor though, 'm not that crazy for sleep
I think it's bad if you take a sleeping pill.. I also have sleep apnea, and it's really hard for me to sleep. Try sleeping Sideways, maybe it'll help. Another thing you can do is ask ur doctor about CPAP.
You are waking up because you are not breathing. If you take a sleeping pill, it might prevent you from waking up. That is not a good thing. If you have been diagnosed, let the doctors treat you with a CPAP machine or surgery.
I had this only one time in my life, and needless to say it was frightening because I didn't know what it was and why it was happening to me. Maybe it I am suffering from sleep apnea without knowing it, but as far as I know I only noticed it one time. I kept waking up gasping for air.
go look for treatment.. I work with it.. there's a device called CPAP or VPAP.. it really helps.. although you cannot die, apnea prevents you from REM sleep..which is really important bla bla... go look for treatment
After knowing I had this for over 10 years, I finally got tested before my girlfriend killed me. I was rated at 160. I had no idea, because I was used to it. The CPAP machine works great, but it's a pain in the ass. I'm getting the throat surgery done soon, then the jaw re-alignment after. I'll take the risk before I'll be stuck to that machine forever.
The Snoring Isn't Sexy website encourages patients to discuss their experiences with CPAP, Dental Mouthpieces and Pillar procedure. Visit the "Patient Comments" section and rate your appliance, CPAP or surgical procedure's effectiveness.
and once you get your CPAP machine, remember it needs cleaning and tuneups too. It will need adjusting. My roommate doesn't do this and he falls asleep in front of the television and it's sleepapnea hell around here! ALL THE TIME! I told him if he doesn't take care of himself, he's OUT. I will not be responsible for a dead body. I just won't. This scares me.
No you wouldn't be aware of waking all the time that's the horror of having sleepapnea ... being tired all day does not necessarily mean you have sleepapnea. Did you run the checklist for sleepapnea and if so were there any other symptoms on it that you have? By example having to urinate many times during the night, snoring, sweating during the night, a very dry mouth when you awake, morning-headaches etc ...
If so please go and have yourself tested on sleepapnea ... it just may save your life
I have always been a snorer and did not think too much of it ... untill I got real tired all the time with no energy to spare.
Did some reading on the Internet and when reading about sleepapnea my alarmbell rang ... I had myself tested and that was a good thing !!!
Since I was diagnosed with apnea (60 times per hour) I sleep with my CPAP and mouthmask and I feel much better although not a 100% yet and maybe I'll never will ... but at least I no longer sufficate in my sleep !!!
I got my CPAP last night. No one wanted to room with me on trips anymore! I was told I was 95 times per hour on my sleep study. good thing I didn't end up dead!
Sleepapnea can cause many healthproblems in the long run, and yes even death, if not treated. It's a good thing you have your CPAP now. I wish you well !!!
I have a really severe case ... over 120 episodes per hour! Thank heaven for the CPAP machine ... sufferers ... wear it! Use it! Also it is better to sleep on your side, not on your back like this guy.

I heard Sleep Apnea not only affects your breathing during sleep sometimes you don't get a good night's sleep at all because of Sleep Apnea.

Yes that is because it fragmentises your sleep so you sleep less long and less deep!
