Listened D'Angelo version and compared it to this. The problem is the use of auto tune. It just doesn't work on this style of music. Nothing against D'Angelo, just smooth music like this sounds weird with a robotic voice. Auto tune works well with a style like Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight".
