In the church that I was brought up in, atheism equaled satanism. If you didn't believe in god, then it meant you must believe in the devil. I can't count how many sermons were preached on that subject. It's one of the reasons that I labeled myself as an agnostic at first. Now, I embrace being an atheist.
I remember that too. If it wasn't "godly," then it was "of the devil." Silly, silly beliefs that have somehow lasted. It almost makes me ashamed to be a human... almost. :)
lol, i'm confident that i, or anyone with half-a-brain, could write a bible-length book on all of the stupidities, absurdities, self-contradictions, and the ACTUAL abominations of the bible and the customs of christianity that became included after the bible. it's all too much to include in any video
So amazingly and beautifully put. Especially that last line;-) "Fearing something in the sky that loves you.;-) I'm a believer in some kind of supreme creative driving force, but I've grown to love and respect atheists a great deal over the past year due to their shear lack of baggage brought about by religious delusion. Thanks for stating your point so clearly.
"Isn't it funny that people who think atheism as a beleif system are not atheists themselves."
What is funny is that those people who fail to realize that atheism is the belief there is no god are ignorant of atheism as well as formal logic and set theory.
Their ignorance doesn't stop at what atheism is.
As an atheist, I am appalled at the surge of ignorant people calling themselves atheists and refer to "I don't believe" thinking they said anything about themselves.
"Isn't it funny that people who think atheism as a beleif system are not atheists themselves."
Wrong. All atheists believe there is no god and atheists like me are pretty fed up with morons like you misrepresenting atheism through a butchering of logic that is comical.
Yes, many theists think we are opposed to every thing related to religion. Speaking for myself, I'm only opposed to the bad parts. I can take stories from the Bible or other holy books as parables, metaphor, or allegory, but not literally.
I can appreciate religious art on that basis. I just last night attended a wonderful performance of the St. John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach. What I got out of the text was the spirit of sacrifice which we're all capable of. The music was genius!
I enjoy other tunes on the bagpipes, but not that one. Besides not liking the tune to start with, it's become so cliched to play it on the bagpipes. Sorry, to each their own.
i think she meant that you could like a "religious" song because of the feeling that particular melody gives you but still not have a belief in or reverence for a god (and/or vice versa)
You're right..to each their own. I also like Amazing Grace sung to the tune of House Of The Rising Sun. There are many religiously themed songs with incredible melody and lyrics that can be secular. Music is music and I try not to categorize it. I either like a song or I don't.
You don't really believe re that Arabs call blacks abid slave do you?

You don't believe in a god?
Prove it.
You can't do that. We don't have ESP or mind readers. You claim it is true, then prove it.
It also is not about you anyway. You've be proving something that isn't about you.
not believing in god does not exist, there is no such thing as not anything.
Not red is not something
Not Jupiter is not something.
Not is a logical operator and can only be applied to propositions and propositional functions, not to beliefs or theists.

Great presentation brother!
But you forgot also to notice the 'after-life' punishment which is the most hideous invention for policing the faithful pack...
(Or is it faith-fools?)
Cheers!
