they needed the new song as only one song can be played per dimension. (albeit meta knight has a remix to kirby's theme but same theme nonetheless) the old theme did not suit lucas. the new one is a remix to the intro of earthbound zero. the first game in the series! therefore it fits that both latter heroes use it.
