Great video, Thank You. One question How do you stop the tree from dripping after you have filled your buckets of sap? (I really don't know I am from the city) also do I have worry about bugs and vermin dropping into the bucket while sapping overnite.
You don't really need the tree to stop dripping. What we do, we just dump the sap from the individual buckets that hang on the trees to bigger buckets and carry those back, so we don't lose too much sap. You don't really have to worry about bugs and stuff, because there are lids (I just didn't show them, sorry) that cover up the buckets, plus the syrup is filtered before it is bottled. (I didn't show that either, I was in too much of a hurry.)
@Blazofuzz9 Hey Man! You do need to worry about the tree. It may not seem needed. But carve a stick to the size of the hole you drill and once you're done, hammer the stick into the hole and cut the end off. It helps protect the tree from water loss and from insects that can burrow into the tree and kill it. You really need to start doing that.
@MrSquidButt the next time you cut yourself plug it with someone elses skin see what happens. never plug the sap hole with anything. or spray bleach in the hole, let it heal by itself and you will have a hard time finding the hole next year.
@ScarlettOBeara after about four weeks the tap holes seal themselves and don't run anymore, even if it's still running--you have to drill new holes if you want to keep making syrup. Another sign that the season is nearing its end is "sap moths"--you find these moths in the buckets of sap which have warmed up in the sun. May sound gross, but that's nature for you. Like the man said, the sap gets filtered--several times--to get rid of impurities like this.
What you do to stop it from dripping is find a bit of branch that is about the same size and just tap it in about 1-2 inches and with the vermon etc. what you can do is put a cloth over the bucket make sure it is clean and it will also filter the sap at the same time.
LOL organic syrup :D wow amazing! I never knew that.

Can you boil this inside the house or do you have to boil it outside. I had heard it could make the house sticky. THANKS!

what do you use to filter it? Oh yea, and around what months does the sap run?

@wheelori814 We just use cloth filters. The sap runs during March and April, usually, though it depends on the year.
