1 hour!? My play time was about 13. But I thought the final boss was going to be very hard so I made sure I could get al the items I could. Ended up getting 90%.

Well it is not THAT difficult to do it in 1 hour... when I first tried to do it under 3 to see this ending, I did it in 2 hours or so (I never saved the game not to waste time, for instance) and my rate of collecting items was way over 38 (60-70 I guess). So it all depends, if you focus in time, you can do it. Actually, the less energy tanks you have, the faster you'll beat the final boss (since it HAS TO empty every tank before the metroid shows...).

@Sidious82 I think you need at least 3 energy tanks to beat the final boss or else the "rainbow charge laser motherbrain thingy" kills you (I've tested it with 2 full energy tanks+67+1 reserve tank(darn those orange donuts)) :O

@uut0 Yep, probably 3 or 4 tanks is enough to survive the first rainbow shot, and you don't have to look for them, because some tanks are really easy to find or are just in your way, so it definitely saves time...

Like I said in another comment, Yokoi was not the creater of the Metroid franchise. It's a very common misconception usually for two reasons: 1) the true creator of the franchise hasn't done much since Super Metroid (Yoshio Sakamoto is more or less the head of the franchise now), and 2) no one seems to bother doing the research (despite the fact we've got this glorious thing called the "internet" nowadays...). He was the producer of the first game, and general manager on this one.

Sorry to kinda burst your bubble, but Yokoi was not the creator of the franchise. That's just a very common misconception because the real series creator hasn't really worked on many games since Super Metroid.

Makoto Kanoh, this game's producer, was the one who really came up with the overall idea for the franchise. Yokoi just saw the potential the franchise had and acted as producer on the first game (though his role diminished during Super, he only acted as general manager).

i have just played and finished the game for the first time, only knew it from NES and gameboy and never had a super nintendo... but i really love it, even 15 years later! who cares about crysis if you can have metroid?! ;)

i did it without help, e.g. walkthroughs. i found 92% of the items.... but it took me 11:49 lol!

I love this game. An absolute favorite of mine, it's a damn good thing that it's on the VC. I'm not going to ask if you did accomplish the 00:59 finish time...I could clearly see that you probably pulled off a ton of speed tricks...and skipped some stuff. Great ending huh?
