that isnt right, you unpluged the coil wire to the distributor, that would make it turn over but not fire, but the engine didnt crank at all, he had other problems, it probably was the battery

@stingraystud- i seriously doubt the battery had went bad. What actually happens is the starter is inoperative when the engine has no spark because cranking a engine with no ignition source, esp. a fuel injected engine, causes it to flood.

@moparboy77 usually on a fuel injected engine if you crank and get to much fuel then the oxygen sensors will tell the computer that the injectors are over fueling and it will lean its self out or it will shut the fuel injectors off all together but i have never saw one that would disable the starter, but ya never know, it could

if you remove the coil wire it'll still crank over but it won't start because it's got no spark. the battery was either already dead or he wasn't turning the key.
