ridiculous. cheap guitars play like shit. fret wire sticking out past the neck. tone like crap. poor sustain. poor resonance. you get what you pay for with guitars, except for gibson, then you overpay for what you get.
@christiandatingwebsi very well said! (although there are some pretty decent guitars comparable to gibson or fender, a quarter their price.. see yamaha rgx a2 for example)
@yeefanchang2010 there is a difference, it jsut doesn't matter for begginers at ALL. the tone is totally different. and also, he plugged the crappy guitar into a very good amp. that guitar might be a copy of a les paul. but i think it's an epiphone special cause of the headstock and neck, (i can't really see the body that well in this vid.) and if it is, i think it's worth a little more then 150 bucks. but not much more. tone is important, but not as important as some people say.
Was the point of the video to test the difference between expensive and cheap guitars? Because buying a guitar has nothing to do with how cheap or expensive its how the guitar feels to the player....
its about testing the playability, the feel, how well the guitar is made by looking at the frets...
testing out the pickup settings etc, and most guitarists just use scales or random licks (slow or fast) to test out if each note is coming out as it should be
playing "music" may not be what he was aiming to do
I remember to have heard Slash invited by a radio, while he was playing on a really low quality beginner electric guitar and amp. The sound was dirty, not cool, but even with that, it was so cool to hear !
yeah, thats the thing man, if slash plugged into my little amp, he would still sound freaking awsome, if i used all his equipment and guitar, i would still sound no better than myself =P
JerryC never said he was a guitar master, he's from taiwan not a place known for its rock music so when this song became such a internet hit he became quite a celeb in this country. Anyway that Canon Rock was a great guitar song he composed I have heard of quite afew guitarists who wanted to do a rock version of that song but never managed to (such as brian may)
Amp is more important than guitar for sound, but playability on expensive guitars is often better. Try playing a 2k guitar through a shitty amp and it wont sound much better.
the ESP looking guitar(expensive) one sounds brighter and the Les Paul copy is darker sounding and can be used for metal like Kill Switch Engage, Lamb of God.... etc but anyways your sound is 90% made up from amps tone 5% from pickups
The cheapest alternative to gibson which maintins quality is tokai because they use nearly identical types of wood that are found in gibson les pauls. Epiphone wood is slightly different and it shows a lot
ha i can tell the diffrence basicly with £150 the g,b,e strings sound pritty thin, but the amp gives it that push to sound good, witht the $1500 guitar i can hear the notes which his playing really clear. btw that guitar which he played first is £1400 with the pick-ups his got.
Man, the guitar he played first has a better tone to me. And I hate Gibson guitars. They were cool when people like Jimmy Page and Angus Young used them. but now they are just old guitars.
The only good gibsons IMO are the older ones. Everything they have come out with new in the past few years is good yes, but you can get something of equal quality for about 1/4 the price. You just don't get what you pay for with gibson anymore... =(
from experience, les pauls are much MUCH harder to play really fast stuff..because the strings are pretty far away from the necks..and guitar companies, such as jackson, makes guitars and the strings are practically touching the neck, making it easter to play faster stuff
you dumbass actions are adjustable, the difference in speed is from the neck and fretboard and even if the strings are farther from the fretboard anyone whos been playing more than 6 months should be able to play high strings.
Dude, 6 months? I think not. After 6 months Id be probably still trying to figure out how to successfully change chords. Id think 6 years. but 6 months is rediculus.
it depends on how you practice. most people who focus on legato spend a few months playing without picking to get their fingers stronger. i can give you pointers if you want.
If you spend 1200.00 buck ++ on a guitar , than obviously you will spend 500.00 buck on a good amp + 200-400 on good pedals +100 on accesories(string,Box,Pick)than after 2-3 week you give up and you dont play anymore.Lot of money wasted.WHen you start ,purcahse a cheap acoustic or classic guitar (40-100 buck)
For those, who want to know which guitars are those:
The "$1500one" the ESP Horizont FR (neck-thru/Original Floyd/25'5 scale/alder body/maple neck w/ebony fingerboard)(can't buy one of these in USA)
The other one is somekind of Epi Les Paul (Standart or a Studio probably)(em...may be with set-neck, could be a bolt-on thou,24'75 scale, mahogany body with a mahogany neck)
he encouraged guitar beginners not to cost much on finding an expensive guitar, instead they can use a cheaper one that is ok while playing to practice and improve play ability. the sound of expensive guitar is better for sure. however, if you can accept the sound quilty difference between two guitars, maybe the cheaper one is better choice for most of beginners.
I disagree with him. I'd rather want a good guitar, than a good amp (if money was an object). You can make music out of a guitar, and you can only make guitar sounds out of an amp.
he does admit that expensive and cheap guitar makes a difference, eg. quality, parts, productions, etc...
But he indicates that better amp would make more of a difference. He pointed the little practice amp and said he doesn't care who it is, with the little amp, it just can sound heavy enough.
A good guitar helps because of playability, but if you can get a cheap guitar with good fit and action then you're in luck. Amps are nice, but really all you need is a good amp sim/multi-effect - convenient and versatile.
he is saying that the sound difference between 150US vs 1500US is small if u have a good amp. so if u r a beginner, u should focus more on amp instead of getting a good guitar with crappy amp.
what did u say??

he cracks this joke early on about how the guitar is definitely not a gibson, then tries to read the label, but decides he doesnt know how to read it.
the second guitar (the les-paul style one) is supposedly a cheap copy. 4000nt is basically $120 USD, goes out to show how cheap the imitation is.
