@asouply334 I believe he's playing C Aminor and F. When he plays the F he frets the 6th string/1st fret with his thumb. He also does a hammer on when he plays the Am on the second string. I believe the song is traditionally played with only the C and Am, but this is a great rendition which I'm officially stealing!. Hope I was a bit of help anyway.
the good thing about these legends is that they don't lose their quality as they get older. Even though their voices waver, it just seems more authentic and true to the tradition.
a true american treasure. and frank, i'm with you on that. thanks to posts like this one, he will be with us forever, his music and his spirit. god bless america! happy independence day, be safe.
rje is certainly considered to 'know' guthrie's style and repertoire better than anyone else. he taught arlo since woody couldn't. but woody > rje, and woody sounds more like himself than rje sounds like woody. bada-bing////////////
Just rented "The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack" on DVD. Entertaining documentary.

can an experienced guitarist decipher those chords for me? I see a lot of C major and I think an A minor on "hoed" "road" etc..... thanks

Agreed! Woody's best song after This Land is Your Land. As Woody himself said about Jack "He sounds more like me than I do."

You the man Jon, completely agreed Sir...the more rustic the voice, the more well travelled...American music at it's best...

Just make sure you don't mix his whiskey too weak. Don't step on his drink. Though Jack does not drink Wild Turkey anymore.

I've heard it said that Jack "sounds more like Woody Guthrie than Woody Guthrie." And they ran around together for years.
