it can only be played in this area and u cant use things where the game has to load i know because i tried to play kh birth by sleep with my brother but we didnt had an other kh bbs disc and it worked but i couldnt fight with him or add him as d-link.
Of course it works. The PS2 has the area loaded into memory already. That includes people and their movements. When you go into a form and become shiny and invincible, it's actually loading the form. That's why it freezes.
