Middle eastern cultures also do this. The tabo is called a bodna (Bangladesh) there are other names too... Their containers have a little spout on the end too. Overall it is cleaner ;)

You got some of that right, but actually you soap up your hand well first and then you get to the butt washing, so yeah, your hand does touch your butt and your poop, but your hand's soapy anyway, and after that you wash your hands thoroughly. It's arguably cleaner than TP. And seriously, only an idiot would get the tabo, the toilet or the floor splattered. The tabo doesn't even touch your skin other than the hand holding it. Your friends' reactions are funny, though. "Ewwww." :P
