i used some carib sea south seas base rock which looks exactly like that on my first tank n it worked well.it grew coraline algae tremendously and seeded well

why dont you use live rock?

@TheFishHunta I used base rock and seeded it with a few pieces of live rock; a year and half later and it's all live.
